Ode to the Homeless
I walk these streets both night and day
I started like you, but I lost my way
Don't turn away and shake your head
thinking I'd be better off dead
I,too, have those times I wish I were gone
But something inside tells me to hold on
I see in your eyes that you don't understand
Your heart goes cold when I reach out my hand
What makes you hate me so deep in your soul
I'm just a person who isn't quite whole
You judge without knowing, just with a look
I'm homeless and broke, I'm not a crook
Please open your mind along with your heart
Help me today and you've done your part
Fear engulfed me right there on the spot
My heart started racing, my face felt hot
I just saw a man that could have been me
I could have walked by and pretend not to see
But It could have been Jesus just like before
Out in the street, and not at my door.

This is a good Poem. I have a friend that's homeless and she sleeps in her van. She gets so much a month that she has to panhandle in time of need. She's means alot to me. She's always there when I need to talk to her. It's a blessing to have her in my life. I talk to her everyday. She has a laptop and goes to the Library.

What a wonderful poem. I wish more people would think that way. I always thing "There but for the grace of God go I". It's a shame more people don't try to help the homeless rather than labeling them a crook. Thanks for sharing with us.

yup , that is soooooooo true
sometimes people get homeless just due to a few strokes of bad luck, nothing else than that.
could be me or you just as easily as anyone else.
if Jesus landed here I bet he would be deported or something.
