Lately... I have been watching several great movies with Kevin Costner... Like... Dances with Wolves, Tin Cup, Wyatt Earp, Open Range... And I am wondering how come Kevin Costner... while popular... Does not seem to have achieved the same Superstar status than the likes of Mel Gibson. Do you think Kevin Costner is under-rated in the media?

he made many good movies,he is great as an actor and even producer.to me he is also very handsome guy.I think he is not so popular only because he is very normal as a person and very private..he likes to live normal life, thats why i love him more and i am watching all his movies..he is just great!

I think he is a good actor but he has developed a name for producing films that fail to critically deliver. That said even those (Waterworld and The Postman) are still decent enough films just not the blockbusters the backers and critics expected. Dances With Wolves alone justifies the mans existance.

Yes I do believe that Kevin Costner is under rated I simply love him and have seen a lot of his movies and yet I have not seen that many of Mel Gibson's not the same amount anyway but I definately would rate Kevin Costner a lot more than some of the actors I have seen.

Could it be that he is not the hunk Mel Gibson is? I don't know.He had a great run of films in the 90's. My favorite was JFK.

I think Kevin Costner is generally recognized as a good actor. But of late he has not had a good movie. I think his sinking point was the much hyped about movie Waterworld. Since then he has been largely ignored by the media and public by and large. Cheers! Ram

I heard a lot of critics about Waterworld... and I don't really know why... It was a good fun movie... and that's all it was... Perhaps people expected more... because they were use to see Kevin Costner in some more serious roles with a deeper subject story.

Somehow, I myself did not like Waterworld very much. There was no single thing that I could put my hands on, but still the movie was not so good. Cheers! Ram

Well he hasn't really starred in anything latley except for Mr. Brooks so I don't think that helped him any, it was as if he was not at his once a-list status but i'm sure he'll beck back there soon.

I do not feel he is underrated..he had his prime and fame back in the day...truly though he is not a super super star with staying power..

Not really. He was good in Dances With Wolves, but every other movie he just seems to walk around and talk in his normal voice and that's it. Nothing special, no real acting. It's especially noticeable in Robin Hood where everyone but him is speaking in a British accent, and there he is talking in a modern American accent.

The movies where he was good in (Dances With Wolves, Field Of Dreams) I always felt were such strong roles that just about any actor could have played them. So, no, I don't think he's underrated or a very good actor in general.
