I was 16 also that was back in 1974. I remember it well, I was nervous and very happy when I received it in the mail. I wish your son well on his test, you have to let us know if he passed. Is this the written test for his driving permit or his road test for his drivers license?

Ugh he missed it by 1 question! It was the written test. He will have to retake it. He's going again next Wednesday. They said you have to wait 1 week before taking it again. He was disappointed because he took the sample tests and did really well on those.

I've never driven and I never will. I have poor eyesight, but that's OK. I'm perfectly used to it, and I don't mind taking public transportation.

My son took drivers ed in school but they didn't offer behind the wheel classes because it got cut from the school budget. I had to enroll him in a driving school ($375.00!).

I guess it harder in your country to get a license. Here in the philippines its easier. I had my student license same as you 16, even if i dont know how to drive yet. A lot of my fellow filipino have license at their young age... a lot of them also drives without a license too...
When i had my real license i was nervous driving around my village and within a certain perimeters. But i got the hang of it. I did hit most of the trash cans of my neighbors when i was learning. I gave up on MANUAL driving... I love AUTOMATIC better... it just like bump cars... though i never did bump another car for real... they bumped me instead...

Where I live you get your permit at 16 and have to drive with a licensed driver for 6 months, then you can go get your regular license at 17 but there are time restrictions on it till you turn 18.

I don't like taking tests. Will you try to take the test again?

I got my permit when I was 15 1/2 years old. I got my drivers license 2 months after I turned 16. It was a cold, icy day. So Icy that school was delayed for 2 hours. I took my test and passed with flying colors on that ice!!!

Lucky you!! I hate driving on the ice. I always have. I always feel like I won't be able to stop.

I grew up in the country and knew how to drive when I was 12. We had go carts and motorcycles or dirt bikes so driving was very easy for me. I did take driver's ed in school so I would get the good student discount but I already knew how to drive. I got my license when I was 15, that was the legal age when I was growing up.
My kids didn't get theirs until 17. I find that kids these days are not as mature for the most part. Also, there are too many distractions today. Kids play loud music on radio, cell phones, ipods, pda's, text messaging. All these things take away from their attention when driving.
Just make sure your child is ready for the experience! You are the best person to judge your child. Don't let him and peer pressure of his/her friends push you into jumping into something he isn't ready for.

In england you have to be 17 to drive a car and 16 to drive a scooter, my youngest got a scooter at 16 and took his bike test for it and passed but I didn't like him being out on it. I was glad when he was 17 and passed his test and got his car. He was very nervous taking his test but passed first time.

I was seventeen when I got my license. I know I was still in high school because I was one of the few students that had a car.
My son is eighteen and still doesn't have his license and I'm glad of that. Kids are driving too young now and they are not responsible enough to take their driving seriously.
I told my son he will get his license soon enough, but he's starting college in the fall and won't need a car any way.

I got my permit when I was 16 1/2. In New Jersey you get your license at 17. I wasn't nervous taking the test at all. I was in a car I knew very well (my brothers) and I had spent half the morning practicing parallel parking and k-turns. It was fun. Once I passed, I got the license itself and went to Six Flags with my brother.
