Homemade Bread...

I love making Homemade yeast bread, but it seems that we don't eat it fast enough for it to not harden or go bad. Will homemade bread freeze good? I know I freeze store bought bread alot, but I prefer homemade and so does my family. If I could just make the bread and freeze it, we would be so much happier and it is cheaper. Will it hold up to freezing? What do you recommend sealing it in if it will freeze good? Thanks for any recommendations. :)

You are supposed to mail all extras to me! Ha! The ladies at my Aunt's church make bread to sell for missions money. They wrap the loaves in plastic wrap, then aluminum foil and then label it. They say that it freezes well. I have always just bought a loaf or two and used it, I haven't tried freezing it. They make so many different kinds...rye, pupernicle, sourdough, raisin, banana nut, regular...yum!!!!

I will have to try freezing and I will do it the way your said the church ladies do with plastic wrap AND foil. Maybe that will help it. Thanks. :)

That's the way I freeze my homemade bread. I also cut up pieces that have started to get stale into cubes. I can freeze these in a ziploc bag. I'll pop them in my blender when I need breadcubes. When I get a whole bag of cubes, I make stuffing. My family loves it!

homemade bread does not save as well as store bought because homemade does not have all the preservatives in them. It will freeze but when you thaw it, it is not as good. It is still great for french toast and grilled cheese. You can tell no difference in it that way. We dont like to eat it after it has been frozen unless it is like I just mentioned. You should just freeze a loaf and see how your family reacts to it.

You can freeze bread, but it will dry out some once it's thawed. And you have to make sure that it's well wrapped. When thawing, put it on a paper towel, because sometimes the bottom will get soggy. You can also keep it in the fridge, well wrapped, and that will keep it from getting moldy.

That's true...thanks for the idea about keeping in the fridge. I just get tired of making a loaf and then 1/2 of it gets thrown out from drying out or molding. :)

I freeze store bought too. but i've never frozen my home made. I bet though if you make garlic bread out of it it won't matter when you defrost it! Or I like to make frech toast out of my stale (or near stale) home made you can freeze those too. The french toast always tastes great either microwaved or in the oven or even reheating it on the stove top.

You are so capable! I've always wanted to make bread at home.. I just love smelling the aroma of freshly baked bread. Unfortunately, I don't have the equipment or know how to do it. The closest I've come to was a butter cake I made (burnt at the bottom lol).:P

I don't see why not. Just be sure to wrap it up real good, maybe two or three times. I wouldn't recommend keeping it for more than a week in the freezer, as there are no preservatives in it like store bought bread.
