Is Pacifier Good or Bad for the Baby?

pacifier - Is this good or bad for the baby?

I had arguments with my hubby as to give our newborn a pacifier or not. Our baby was less than a month that time so I was hesitant then. My mother had advised me before with my first baby not to let him use pacifier since it would cause colic. But now my baby's 5 months old and he's been starting using it for 2 months now. But I'm worried when he'll about to start developing his teeth. Would it affect? When is the proper time that he should stop using it? I can't bear the thought of a 1 yr old or 2 yr old kid walking around with a binky in his mouth.

I think he is obsessive compulsive about it myself. I agree that oral hygiene is important and that all need to be done, flossing, brushing and mouthwash. I think brushing and flossing are both important. Mouthwash is important too because it kills bad breath and I guess prevents gum disease. I think this person has a habit of flossing constantly.

I used a pacifier for both of my kids and it seemed to do no harm. They probably quit using them by the time they were a year old, but they really didn't even need it that long. They can be a lifesaver though.

And that is exactly what will happen.. I remember when our kids were little, we only let them have a pacifier for a few months and then that was it. Our neighbor had a 3 year old that walked around with one in her mouth and one in each hand, and screamed if they were taken away.. No pacifiers!!!!
