I opened a discussion regarding tips a while ago and i came across a response that said to me if i cant afford to leave a tip why do i have to eat out? no offense taken, but it just gave me thought that, If we don't have enough to leave a tip then we shouldn't consider dining out at all? is there really an unwritten rule that says if you cant afford to leave a tip, then don't dine out? in what countries is tipping a must?? I hope this doesnt get me negative remarks as im just curious to know, because in our country, tipping is not really that much of a deal since most of the dining establishments here are fastfood chains like mc donalds and burger king etc, Fine dining or classy restaurants are kinda rare and are very expensive to go to-And you have to have like thousands of pesos to be able to eat there- tipping is kinda optional, up to you of course... And some are what we call "carinderia" which is like a mini canteen/eatery type of establishment. Usually if you leave your change to serve as a tip-they would usually even call you back and tell you, that you left your change and give you back your money... So please- any thoughts please? no flames please..i come in peace ,V,,

Hi... I'm not really sure about this but my brother said that you should give 10% (tip) of what you've paid. He usually gives tip after we eat but in my case, I don't. I don't give tips because I've been used to it already and even if my friends and I eat in classy restaurants, we still don't give. I don't know if it's bad but we don't feel bad about it. Sorry, if I didn't really answer your question. I think it depends on the person whether he/she will leave a tip or not.

Hry catcai - surely service is included in the price of your meal and waiters and waitreese are paid a basic wage anyway - you pay for certain dishes and drinks - this SHOULD include it being brought tou your table surely??? Do not get me wrong I am not saying that we should never leave a tip but I only do so when I feel someone has given me good service and has been polite! If a waiter has been rude, churlish or ineffective, maybe leaving your meal to cool etc then I would not leave a tip! Don't wish to upset anyone but if you cannot afford the extra expense of a tip why should that mean they can't eat out as their server is still getting paid anyway. xxx

Oh boy. Here I go on the tipping bandwagon again. LOL. Here in USA it's customary to leave your waitress/waiter/barmaid etc a tip equivalent to 20 percent of the bill. This means before any discount or freebie coupopons. Most people in the food serving business are making minimal wages & depend on tips for life support. My wifes earned wages are nowhere near enough for all the bills we have. So she relies on good tipping customers. She makes decent tips so there's no problem. Let me tell you from experience that if you tip good & return to the same places they DO treat you a lot better. So take this also into consideration before you leave a tip or decide not to leave one. Thanks fro thsi discussion. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!
