A Band-Aid in my food!

Last year, my husband and I were eating in a popular sports bar/restaurant. We were laughing and eating when I looked down into my half-eaten plate of pasta and burst out crying. I surprised myself. I was crying so hard I couldn't even tell him what was wrong. Finally I choked out "There's a band-aid wrapper in my food." He called the waitress over, she actually shrugged and said, "Well, that happens in restaurants." I cried harder. The manager came over and asked if I wanted anything else. WHAT! We paid for his meal and left with my "evidence" wrapped up in the trunk of the car. I threw up in the parking lot. I wanted to go to the hospital, to the police - we did both. Both places recommended that we contact the Board of Health after the weekend had passed. I learned that it is hard to prove anything to the Board that they have not witnessed themselves. For example, how do we prove that we did not bring the wrapper with us? The management of the national franchise did call us with heartfelt apologies and sent us gift cards (for their restaurant!) My husband thinks that I am picky and squeamish by nature but I kept trying to explain to him that my feelings were hurt as well. You place a lot of trust in restaurants when you eat there. You trust that the ingredients will be as stated, that the food will be fresh, that the kitchen will be hygienic. You trust the cook not to drop a band-aid wrapper in your angel hair pasta! I am still wary of eating in restaurants and think that most of them are in violation of some health code. The cookstaff should be wearing hairnets, footies, gloves. I could go on. Do you think that I am being paranoid? What would you have done?

You are right, imagine now if the cook had cut his figure and wrapped the bandage will serving your food. What if this man had aids? No respectable restaurant would have a band aid any where near food.

What happend to you is disgusting, and I think that the resturant should make it up to you. I don't think you are paranoid, I just think that you type of person that get very upset about such things. If a thing like that would happend to me, I won't get sad, and started to cry like you did, because i'm not that type of guy. What I would do is to report to this resrutrant to the authority, and I will tell this story to all of my friends, so they be aware from it.
