Anyone know how to repair a washing machine?

I think my washing machine is a goner. Oh no! The water is not pumping out. Is there anything I can do or am I going to have to call a repairman? Is it going to be economically feasible to fix it or should I start shopping for a new one? The washing machine is rather old.
