Trees! My neighbors and my dad included, are cutting their trees in their yards down. I don't understand why. I do know why my dad is...he wants to lessen his yard work during the summer. We need trees! Anyone have any thoughts on this?

yes, we need trees. however, they also interfer with aerial power lines (just ask anyone in the midwest who went through the ice storms this past winter) and the roots play havic with the sewar lines. so your dad may be taking offensive action in regard to getting rid of the trees.

Really, none of the trees were that close to power lines. I know my dad...he will do anything to lessen any work lol..but that's a whole different story. I just love trees! I love to hear the birds sing and watch them make their nests, etc. The yards look bare IMO.

Go talk to your neighbor. If they are cutting down their trees to reduce their yard work, that doesn't make any sense. He'll probably have more problems with his lawn and have to mow it more often if he cuts down the trees.

I wish I could have them. I've known others who have done this to try and diminish their work with the trees but for myself I'd rather have a lot of trees. I'd like the shade for around the house and in the yard. That and they are beneficial to the earth and the air around us. We need trees for a variety of reasons besides just the fact that they look nice. It's a shame that your father is cutting them down but not much you can do about it either. Hopefully if he can he'll put other plants in it's place.

Yes, I agree we need trees. I love trees, they give you shade, and they actually may the air feel cooler, they help with the oxygen, they are homes for all sorts of birds and other animals. Without trees on this earth it would burn up. It would all turn to desert and everything and everyone would die.

Yes we need trees for the oxygen they give and the lovely shade they give us in the warm/hot summer time. And also the fruits they supply. But in the neighborhood I used to live in the trees were planted in the front of the house near the curbs and the water main was next to them and they'd (the roots) would grow into the pipes and choke them then an expensive plumber would have to be called to unclog them. Now the tree in my childhood neighbood is slowly dying because the next door neighbor's gardener put some plant killer in the ground to kill the grass that grew into the fences now it's destroying my mom's tree. The leaves fall down all day long into her yard and into the streets. It looks terrible. So I wouldn't blame her for having the tree cut down for it's dying anyway. But we can speak life into our plants in the name of Jesus and they will rise up. Many people do speak to their plants. Plants respond to our words. Be they positive or be they sinister.

yes, i had a tree removal service up until i got sick with cancer. some trees need to go, they can be dangerous if they are dying, to close to a foundation, lots of reasons. but to cut them down for no reason except to eliminate yard work. trees add value to your property, they lower cooling costs, not to mention the ecological benefits of trees. we all need trees in more ways than most people know, for every full grown tree cut down ten saplings should be planted, in washington state where i worked for 10 years, the forests produce more than 3 billion more board feet lumber than is cut each year. we need trees to breath, many people have no clue where the oxygen we breath comes from. we need a green planet, please join a movement to save the rain forests of our small world. plant a tree on arbor day, mahalo, oahu lopaka

I totally agree, kkerix. The reason my dad is cutting his trees down is to lessen his yard work. My dad is "different". I won't go into all that...lol! The house looks bare without any trees. He thinks it adds value to the house! I just got really angry when I saw what he had done.

That's sad, I love trees and it's always a shame to see them distroyed. I can understand the clean-up thing, my old house there was a huge weeping willow tree and it was a not stop job cleaning up under that. Matthew 5:11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you, lie, and say all kinds of evil things about you because of me.

That depends on the reason why they are cutting trees. It could be that it's already a hazard and could be an accident just waiting to happen especially if its old and have some branches that are about to fall off already. Or if its too big already and might one day fall down on ones house in cases of tyhpoons.

Have you tried the arguments of the Greens with your dad and neigbour? The beauty of greenery, combating grenhouse gas effect, air purification, neigbourhood beautification etc. It just might work who knows to change his opinion.

I can't imagine cutting down a tree unless it was sick. They provide us with shade and also reduce the risk of flash flooding! If your house falls under it's shade, it helps lower your energy bills. Plus, they are fun to climb :)

High winds caused this tree to snap - The tall pines bend like elastic, yielding to the winds - usually. The force of the wind proved too much the night before this picture was taken. How fortunate we are that it went in the direction it did.
We have a lot of trees on our property, and two years ago a crew came through and cut down all the ones that traveled near power lines... I just wish the power lines were not so close to the road, as the trees there served as a hedge, muffled the traffic noise, kept highway dirt away from the property and enhanced the view. I do understand why it needed to be done though, and I am glad that our utilities company is on the ball. I especially understand it after we had high wind storms this year and lost a couple of our very large pines. See attached picture. I would actually like to clear out most of the pines in our front yard and replace them with a few shade trees. The shade trees won't be such a threat to the house when the wind blows. It is true that trees benefit us greatly and provide shelter to birds and animals. But, we also need fields. There are many meadow animals that are losing their habitat because everyone wants to grow trees and do away with the grassy areas. Such is the fate of the Prairie Chicken.

Honestly, it depends... my mom and dad had to cut down almost 50 trees over the past 2 years. See, we live out in the country and even after those 50 were cut down, we still have about 25 out there. It looks a lot better not so crowded. Honestly, when spring happened it looked GORGEOUS out in our yard. So, really.. depends on WHY you are cutting them down.
