I love all of the Lord of the Rings books. My sixth grade teacher read us the Hobbit many, many years ago, and it hooked me on Tolkien from day one. I used to think it was the Fellowship of the Ring that I enjoyed the most, but eventually I came to love the Two Towers the most. Does anybody else have a favorite, and have you ever read the follow up book, Unfinished Tales???

I love all the three books of the trilogy! And since I've read the Hobbit too, I like it very much. It's really hard to decide.. Oh, I've got Unfinished Tales too. Just managed to finish it halfway though; it's too full of historic event and my mind is numbed from trying to remember all the facts. But I do enjoy The Silmarillion, the book that describes Pre Middle Age era. It's fascinating. So I think I'd say that The Silmarillion is my favourite book. The story of how Feanor angered the Valar, the coming of the First Born and and Men, creation of Valar, the origin of Numenore and Numenoreans - they're simply awesome. The book explains a lot of confusing things in the trilogy. I love the trilogy even more after I read The Silmarillion because certain things have been explained in greater detail, so I won't go on being confused and keep thinking about questions that might never be answered in the trilogy. =D cheers~

My sentimental favorite is still and always will be The Hobbit. The main reason being it was my first true introduction to the world of High Fantasy and I can still remember to this day over 30 years later how it blew me away and how it opened my mind to realms of possibilities that until then I had no idea existed. It also has its own unique charm and a special innocence that I still enjoy and treasure to this day.

My favorite Lord of the Rings book is The Return of the King mainly because where everything was concluded. It also shows the defeat of the Witch King at the Battle of Pelennor Fields. In the book, it also showed the return of the hobbits to the Shire and how they defeated Saruman.

Of course, The Hobbit is a classic. Everybody who's familiar with Tolkien and the general genre of fantasy would know it well. The simple words and charming storyline is enough to keep you glued for hours. Tolkien did a great job of portraying one of the most important event leading to the War of the Ring in a simple, down-to-earth and memorable manner.
