Do you haggle over prices at garage sales?

I saw my first garage sale of the season today! Well, actually a 'side of the road' sale. In Eastern Kentucky folks load up the trunk of their car, drive somewhere and park on the side of the road and put their items out on the trunk or on the ground. Anyway, do you pay what the person quotes or do you haggle over price?

Going to a garage sale is something that I have always wanted to do. I have never been to one. In our small town I have driven by some sales and they look so junky. My girlfriend in the city goes all the time and haggles untill she gets the price she wants. She goes through the newpaper to find the sales in Ritzie areas and heads out early in the moring. I should join her some time.

Oh man do I wish I were there !!! I love garage sales and here in Saskatchewan Canada it snowed AGAIN today. We have so much snow now and more today. I have haggled at a garage sale but for the most part I just pay the price, it's usually quite affordable, but I can remember a couple of times being short of dollars and I asked for a deal and got it. Thank You for this post it brought back a memory of me driving from yard sale to yard sale last summer and I came to this garage just heaped to the roof and nothing priced, I thought Oh my I must be way to early for this one and a fellow said to me what are you doing ? I said well is this a yard sale, he said No Lady we're moving. I just wanted to die right there. LOL I didn't haggle but I sure left in a hurry. Take Care.

ROFLMBO!!!! HAHA!! That is just too good! I wish someone would come by my house and say that to my hubby, then perhaps he would get serious about cleaning the garage!

I am not a haggler..lol I usually pay what they are asking. Sometimes I will make an offer but only if it's an expensive item. My sister on the other hand will always haggle..even for a nickel. I get embarrased when she starts..thank god she is 3000 miles away.. So I don't have to yard sale with her very often. I also have a good friend that haggles alot and always finds the best buys.

Sometimes, if something is priced high, I will ask if they will take less. Usually I get a number in my head, in case they ask. Garage sale stuff should be cheap, that's why they're a big hit!

I just generally pay the price if it's something I want. I love going to sales, but usually I don't have enough time to spend time haggling. I take my baby with me. Last year he was only a few months old, so I always took the car and had to get him in and out everytime. This summer we are going to go with the stroller. It will probably prove to be quite eventful. I'm sure he won't give me time to discuss the price unless he is drinking milk or having a snack. Otherwise he will be too fussy trying to get at whatever I'm trying to buy.

It depends. Most things I won't haggle over the price, but if I find a big motorized toy, furniture, etc, I might ask if they will take "X" amount. But, I do not go down too far. I just know that most of the garage sales I have had, I add a few more dollars onto higher priced items because I know that people will try to get a better price. :)

I have never haggled with anyone, ever, anywhere with a price. If the price is right, I buy it. If I think it is too high, I skip over it. Some cultures do this, as that is normal for them. I don't like to do it at all.

It depends on how much the item is. If it's over 20 dollars, I will haggle, if they only want a couple of bucks for something, I dont' bother. I had a garage sale last summer, and some things were labelled for 50 cents, and people would offer me a nickel. That I thought was ridiculous.

Usually we don't buy that much in garage sale, but I like to go and browse in a garage sale. I don't haggle over prices. If I feel price is too high for some particular thing what I may need, I would not buy it but don't bother to haggle over the price.

Naw, not usually. I don't go to many garage sales. It would depend on the item. But for the most part, prices are reasonable to begin with, I have found.

Do You mean everyone does not do this? LOL I am funny about money. I am frugal to the point that I try to haggle prices at yard sales. I just dont like to pay full price for anything. I always try to haggle but I dont offer too low as that is an insult to the person.

I love to garage sale. I don't generally haggle over prices, but if I think that they are asking to much then I just move on. If they ask me to make an offer I sometimes will, or if they offer a lower amount then sometimes I take them up on it if I find the new amount to be more in the range I was looking for. People that way over price everything and then wonder why they are stuck with so much stuff afterwards, this is why. I like when people post the amounts on the items they are selling, as I hate to ask how much everything is. I find it quite frustrating and will generally not linger at the sale for this reason.

I love to go garage saling. My family has one every May when the whole town has city wide sales. I pay what they're asking if it's a really good deal but I'll haggle over some things too. I do that with the things I sell at our sale. I don't usually haggle on the first day of the sale, but as it gets near the end of the weekend and I want to get rid of something I'll take someones offer that's below what I'm asking.

I don't haggle, but if the price is too high, sometimes I'll make a reasonable lower offer. If they take it, fine, if they don't I don't bother them about it.

I don't ever haggle with people doing a yard sale, or a garage sale. Most people who do their own yard or tag sale put the price on it that they actually want for it. However, when going to the flea market I usually do haggle. It's funny, but most of them there seem to expect it. We just got a $50 (used) monitor at the flea market for $30. It was obvious that the guy selling it was having fun with the haggling.

I love garage sales, Normally every weekend I do the rounds of the sales and come home with stuff, most I resell on ebay :) I dont haggle that much as know what it feels like when people do it to me, but of course if I am buying 3 things I will try to get the 3 cheaper but not buy heaps. Some people reduce the price for you. I like to goto the markets later as by then most people are trying to get rid of their things and not wanting to pack it up to take home again, so always end up getting a bargain.

Lat fall I had a garage sale, I had itmes that were brand new, still in the boxes with the price tags on them, they were marked down 90% and people haggled. I could not believe that I could offer things for next to nothing and people would still haggle and complain. I had a small cabinet, orginal price was $100, it was used for less then then a month. It looked like new. Price was $5, I thought it was priced to move. People haggled. But you know what, several cars came by the evening the garage sale ended, so they could get the items that I was throwing ou, one lady told me that she had hoped I would toss the stuff, since a lot of people do that, she goes to garage sales to scope things out, then checks after the garage sale and on garbage night. SHe never buys, she gets it from the trash for free.

We rarely have garage sales here in our town. But there are bargain stores we could go to where we can haggle with prices.

Living in Florida, we go to them pretty much year round and almost every weekend too. We will ask if the person can do better if we feel they are a little too high and we are really interested in the item. However, if I am interested in something that is already a very good deal I normally don't ask for a lower price. I don't like to insult people when I know it is already a steal.

It depends on how much they are already asking. If I think it is too much then I will haggle. If I really want it though and they will not come down I will buy it. If I kinda want it and they will not come down I just put it down and walk off. When I have walked off before I have had people change their prices.
