I am just curious if it's just me or what. Almost everybody I know (and the ones I don't) know me and call me using my nickname. I think it has been 10 years since somebody actually called me by my real name. My real name is Claudette and my nickname is Chloe, really off I know, a lot of people would ask me where I got Chloe...hell it's a long story! Anyway, right now I am called and known as "Chloe" and not Claudette. People get surprised when they learn that my real name is Claudette. My husband loves my nickname and he calls me Chloe and not Claudette. How bout you guys, do people know you and call you more by your nick than your real name?

My name is pretty hard to change, so I've been known by the same name all my life. Some people mispronounce it or try to shorten it, and I correct them everytime. I was named that for a reason, and it was that the name would be impossible to change.

Thanks for the response. I guess there are some people who are lucky enough to know what their name stands for. lol I think my parents named me after a French actress or something.

Well in my case it is not my nick name people call me but they call me by my surname. They keep calling me by that surname only and at times I wonder that they have completely forgotten my real name.

Thanks for the response. I have friends who have the same experience, people calling them by their last names...they are usually from the basketball team, I think people around them are more familiar with their last names. I sure hope they don't and won't forget your real name :).

Hey my father is know by his nickname more than his real name. Even when he gets a wedding invitation from some distant relative whom we havent seen for a while writes his nickname at the front instead of his real name. And even his school friends call him with the nick name itself.

I get called mostly by my first name. Or EJ by my family because of the history behind that nickname. Now that I think about it I get called kitten rarely and I really don't have many nicknames that are used often.

Thanks for the response. I also have a close family and we have our own nicknames for each other. I like that idea, something that others won't be able to understand and sometimes it becomes a personal joke within the family.

I'm always known by my nickname, though everyone knew my real name. My nickname sounds better and real cool. I have very long name so my nickname will do.

Up until I was 16, everyone called me by my nickname, Genny (my real name is Genesis). I decided at that point that I didn´t want to be known by my nickname anymore (which everyone thought was Jenny, short for Jennifer), so I just started introducing myself as Genesis. It was hard going, since my family and friends couldn´t make the change after so many years, but eventually, everyone new that I met called me by my real name. Now that I live in another country, no one even knows that I used to be called Genny, except my husband. But here, my name is pronounced in Spanish, so I am now known as "Henesees", which I suppose is another form of a nickname!
