Should we pay attention to what type of music kids listen to?

I have 2 kids of my own. I caught my daughter signing to the most gross song I have even heard! I had to tell her the song wasn't for "nice girls". As sang her a more cleaner version. Or if I listen to the radio I quickly make up a song to creatively cover up the bad words they sometime slip through. What do you think should parents worry about what type of music kids listen to? What type of music you like? Do your kids follow, and sing along?

I help raise my neice and you better believe we monitor what she is listening too. Some of her friends parent's don't and we have to explain to her that we don't allow such music. Some of the rap songs they listen to I don't agree with what they are promoting, the violence and such. She has all her life to listen to such if she wants to be not right now. For the most part though she listens to acceptable music or listens to ours which works for us. Most of what she likes I either like or can at least tolerate. It helps.
