Now I'm all for the ethical treatment of animals but after reading this article as reported by Fox News I think Peta may have gone a bit off the wall:
CHARLESTON, S.C. A national animal-welfare group that has said trappist monks mistreat animals at their South Carolina chicken farm is now accusing the group of unfair trade practices.
People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals says the Mepkin Abbey is misleading customers that it is home to "happy" animals.
PETA says the animals' living conditions go against the abbey's claim it has a deep respect for the environment.
PETA also says the abbey is violating Catholic principles.
The complaints were filed today with the South Carolina Department of Agriculture, state Attorney General Henry McMaster and the Federal Trade Commission.

they keep them up in cages and the eggs roll down a ramp like thing away from the chiken but they are like 2 to 3 chikens in each cage!
I liked the old way go out and get your eggs from the nest but I have to buy them now out of store and ya dont really know how long they have been in the store altho an egg will keep along time in fridge

and how are they treating the chickens?
PETA tend to be more than a bit extreme at times, but it's perfectly possible for monks to mistreat an animal, just as much as it's possible for anyone else to mistreat an animal.
I don't see what them being monks has to do with it.
