Who would drink recycled water?. I must say I'm a bit iffy about it. But the way things are going I think its going to be the norm within 10 years

We're having this debate in Australia at the moment, and a messy process it is. In practice, recycled water, particularly if it's filtered through a molecular membrane, is going to be cleaner than the stuff coming out of the taps all over the world. Exactly why people think water which comes through ancient pipes is "clean", I do not know. It's better economics, anyway. A huge amount of water is wasted in domestic use, millions of people turning on millions of taps every second. The mains themselves waste a lot of water in leaks, as well as bursts. One other point: At least with recycled water, you know someone is supposed to clean it, filter it, and achieve a standard of hygiene. There's more oversight on the water quality, for both supply and consumer. Most developed countries have water supply systems that are at least 100 years old, and they taste like it. Now, it suddenly matters what comes out of the taps.

Your last 2 sentences says it all. For me, if I have to drink it then I would, its just the thought and I get visuals (which I shouldnt). But surely they have to make it taste better than what we have got at the moment.

If the process of recycling water will elimate all the harmful substance making it potable, why not? If technology could make it possible, nothing wrong. I heard recently that Japan introduced the new system of purifying the sea water. (And used water... im not sure). I think technology like this helps a lot.

Yes, technologies are always at the forefront of such projects. As long as its clean I suppose, otherwise they would have an absolute epidemic on their hands.

My town actually started to recycle water, its not being used yet I don't believe, only in the swimming pool, local businesses etc..not for consumption. I watched something once where they removed all the toxins in the water and it was actually better than mineral water. But like you said, in about 10 years or so we may not have a choice.

technically we drink recycled water already. ground and ocean water evaporate into clouds where it falls back to earth. hahahahah. it is kind of weird to drink sewer water but if it has been thoroughly cleaned i guess its ok. i'll let someone else try it first though
