That is a great way to put it... i am a history teacher before... and i was able to teach the subject effectively even if i was not yet even born when the events happened... thanks for the response... and for reviving this discussion... this is actually the very first that i made...

for me it would depend on the level of teaching. A Geography teacher can only be effective so far without extensive travel experience blessed be

A teacher can effectively teach geography as long as he/she is knowledgeable enough... but it will indeed be better if that teacher was able to see first hand what she is talking about in the classroom... it will certainly make him/her more credible in the eye of the students... thanks for the response... but sorry for the 1 year delay in the comment...

Certainly a geography teacher can be effective if they have not traveled the world. The just can't be effective as a tour guide.

I do not see why not if he/she has studied the subject well after all people teach astrology without visiting the stars dont they?they teach history and no one has been back when!

That is a very good point... people indeed study the planets without even seeing those heavenly bodies up close... so i think geography can be taught effectively as long as the teacher is well versed in the subject... thanks for the response... but sorry if it took me 1 year to give a comment...

I am a history teacher who has not visited the past, in person anyway. I guess we will have to make do with sources of evidence and our own personal genius until such a time as they pay us enough for us to actually travel the world. Personally i think waiting for a time machine to be invented will be less of a wait.

yes she/he can be an effective teacher as well.he/she doesnt need to travel all the world but go through the book well and understand the problem of the students.he just needs to work out on them and induce the spirits in the students to be intrigued by geography.Good teachers are not those who understand everything but those who can make people in front of them understand everything they have teached and know about.

If you're talking about basic geography, I think that the teacher could have an abundance of knowledge about the subject learned from books and other sources that would suffice to educate children, for example, about the subject in general. I believe that experience is a great educator in itself and always compliments book knowledge. If I had the choice between a geography teacher that has traveled the world or one that has not, yet has a better basic knowledge for the subject; I would choose the teacher who has experienced the world.

Absolutely! Did an history teacher see the Battle of Gettysburg? Did a mathematics teacher meet Pythagorus (sp)? Teaching is imparting knowledge, as long as you have the knowledge you do not need to experience it first hand.
