I am sitting here plucking whiskers off my chin! what is happening, I used to only have 1 or 2 thicker hairs on my chin, now there are several. Is it part of getting older? or are there too many male hormones in my food? The only consolation I have about the whiskers is that they are white and not noticeable to others, but they irritate me so!

Well how old are you anyway? I have to say that there are many male hormones in you. I don't have chin hairs but I have a mustache. There are parts that you can't see but there's a spot on it that it actually visible. I don't want to shave it or pluck it because it might get thicker. Definitely I don't want to look like a boy.

*cough* I am forty-one, but still feel like I am a teen. Oh well, I reckon getting older sure beats the alternative (dieing young)

Aren't those aggravating??? I started noticing them too in my 40's. Don't have many more but I think even one is too many! lol Plucking them if anything will make them finer, because you slightly damage the hair follicle each time you pull them out. You could look into laser removal if they really bother you, but I think they often ask if you've plucked them before. That's because it can be more difficult to get the laser to the base of the follicle if it's been "bent" from plucking. It's generally the female hormones that are found in food; that's the one that makes things (like cattle) grow big quickly. As we head toward menopause our ratio of female: male hormones tend to change because the ovaries are slowing down. Lucky you they're white though! The black ones can be really noticeable.

I think it's jsut a fact of life. As we get older we seem to notice less hairs in the places we want hairs, and more hairs in the places we don't want hairs! This is true for both men and women. Maybe you can take comfort in the knowlege that is has/will happen/ed to all of us!

lol yeah i hate that too! It is very embarrassing and if you know they are there it makes you feel very awkward. I don't know why it happens but it does have something to do with testosterone. I don't think you can really do anything except laser surgery, plucking or waxing. Sorry.

I also like the advice you give in your user name! pick your whiskers, not your nose ;)

modestah me too, I have these annoying stiff little whiskers on my chin and its the devil to pull them out with my tweezers as I can never grasp the darn things. sometimes I can just yank them out with my fingers. lol I dont think anyone else can see them but I can feel them.

I get the whiskers lol they dont worry me too much,I just pull them out if I see them, some of them get long, and they are really tough whiskers too,by all accounts the oestrogen levels go down as we get older ,this is in the female, and then the testosterone starts to rise,so we have a good bit of the male hormone in us after forty five.lolol

Well I found that after menopause. The same thing happened to me, i also understand that we no longer produce the female hormones, but we still produce a small amount of testosterone, like we have for four entire lives.
