Snakes are predators and they should never be a pet. I had a friend who had a pet snake. However, it scaped and went to a neighbor's house. The neighbor killed it. My friend was furious. I had my sympathy for the neighbor and do the same. How about you?

I am highly afraid of snakes, though I would never kill it for getting into my house. True they are predators, but when they attack us, they are just going on a natural instinct to protect themselves and to survive. In a case where one would get in my house I would call the right person and have them remove it, than set it free somewhere far away from my house.

I do agree that human life valuable, however I don't see a need to kill something that is most likely more scared of a human than a human is scared of the snake, or any other animal that may come into ones home. Plus I have never been for needlessly killing an animal just for removal purposes or sport, if it was going to be eaten afterwards than I would have no problem with it, but I don't know to many people that eat snakes. So it just gets on my nerves a little when something has to suffer or die, because humans are afraid of it, or just aren't willing to take proper care of it to begin with.

I had snakes creeped into my bathroom a few years ago. I didn't kill it myself bcause I was too afraid. I called my neighbor to get rid of it--I mean to kill it. I'm sorry if it was cruel but can't really live with snakes. :-@

I quite agree with you Forhekset for that. I don't care if that snake is endangered. People's lives are more precious than theirs.

i would do the same thing your neighbor did. although i like pets, i abhor those venomus ones. i was bitten twice by two of my pet dogs and i killed them in fit of anger. and when i got married, we never entertained of buying pets anymore. but my daughter is coddling cats but i warned her never to put them inside our house, thats why her cats is with her auntie's house.

You have aaaall the rights to get mad at them, Bosing. I got intruded by snakes when I was teaching in a remote barrio back in the Philippines. I tell you it was a horrible experience. Away with the snakes!!!

Alot of people still have the wrong impression about snakes, some of them try to kill it once they spotted them. They cook and eat it, and uses it's skin for the leather they provide in handicrafts. Others are because they are afraid that it might attack them, but that's not always the case. Snakes only attack when they are threatened, I think it's better to call som wranglers or the owner itself, to handle the snake and put it back to where it belongs. We should be more aware of the snake's important role in our eco-system, without them, alot of pests like rats will run around in places and will uncontrollably grow more in numbers.

You're right Raijin. I totally agree with you about the eco-system thingy. But you can't really blame people if they are scared of snakes. Rated + just as the others or all of the above :-D

It all depends on what you know about snakes. In Australia there are many that are poisonous but also many that aren't. In most cases I can tell the difference, so if I saw a python I wouldn't kill it, I might call the animal welfare group or a snake expert to come and take it away or I might just leave it. I grew up on a farm and having pythons around was very useful as they controlled the numbers of rats and mice.

Well, it's good you know so much about snakes. But for us who live in the city and snakes are a real monster no matter if they're small or large, poisonous or not.

You need a licence for most snakes and reptiles here in Australia if you want to keep them as pets and they must be secured. I have sympathy for oyur friend but also she was obviously not taking to much care with them unfortunatly. Me, I would call animal control to come and collect the snake as I wouldnt want to take the risk of getting bitten, and it also might be a protected species.

That's a commendable action by your government. I guess that way people would get more responsible in keeping their pets. I believe the license doesn't make one free from charges if ever the pet crawls to the next door neighbor?

Ewww...I never like anything that is crawling so my sympathy is for the neighbor also. But snakes by nature doesn't like people and are more afraid of us than we are of them. It's when they get threatened such as a person tresspassing on its habitat that they get aggressive. Won't you too if one tresspasses into your domain or house?

well, i can never blame your friend's neighbor maybe even i will do the same because how would i know that it is my neighbor's pet, right? but i still do understand some people keeping these kind as their pets, to each his own.we all have different prefernces on pets, some likes to have a virtual pet, which is odd for me but thinking about it, a pet is something that gives you satisfaction. a pet preference depends on how an individual feels akin to a certain animal, maybe, one feels that it is an expression of himself or his extensions or how one feels towards his world around him.so, we can never dictate a pet preference. personally, snakes and other vicious or dangerous creatures should be left in the wild , not because of its exticnction but because of its nature, they are better off in their home environment.just let them be or else they would die.

You're absolutely right, TD! I also don't mind if people keep them as pets but they should be kept securely so as not to scare others. thanks for your response.

If people want to keep snakes as pets, then they need to make sure that it cannot escape. I hear about snakes escaping all the time. Your neighbor had the right to kill the snake if it went into his house. What did your friend expect him to do? Lloyd
@Jemina (5770)

Amazingly, snakes have a superb skill in escaping. Or maybe it depends on how secure the cages are.

I would kill it on the spot just like your friend's neighbour did. If there is one thing i hate its snakes.I can't even think of sleeping in one room knowing there is a snake in the other OMG.

In India snakes are considered to be a holy predator . They revolve arounf neck of one of our god "Lord Shiva ". But people here are very scared of snakes ,even I'm dam scared of snakes and would love not to see any of this predators for rest of my life . I have sympathy for a person who loses his pet but even I would have killed any animal if I would have found the animal to be dangerous for my family and kids .
