POP stands for Post Office Protocol - a protocol to deliver emails. It has become obsolete now-a-days.

POP or Post Office Protocol is responsible for retrieving e-mail from a mail server. It requests that the mail server and subsequently delete it from the server; retrieve mail from the mail server but not delete it; or not retrieve mail, but simply ask whether new mail has arrived. The POP provides support for Multipurpose Internet Mail Extensions ( MIMEs ), which allows the user to attach binary file messages. When you read your mail, POP dictates that the entire mail message is immediately downloaded to your computer and that is no longer maintained on the server.
