what is public network?

In a public extranet an organization allows the public to access its intranet from any public network such as internet or when two or more company agree to link their intranets using a public network. A public network does not provide any security protection. To secure transactions the Company must provide protection to the outgoing information before the information passes into the public network, so public network extranet is rare in practice
