ashes to diamonds

I am a big fan of cremation because so many acres of land are being taken up by graveyards. That is only ONE reason that I don't like the idea of cemetaries and burying the dead. I would much rather that space be given to the living- what right do I have to demand that space when I no longer need it?
So anyway...I heard from a family member who is also in favor of cremation about something they do with the ashes. I have heard of swirling the ashes into glass for necklaces, paperweights and some other odd things. And of course there is the classic ashes in a can over the fireplace. But she told me about turning ashes into diamonds. People have been creating lab-diamonds for years and now they do it with ashes of loved ones. It is still a REAL diamond but it isn't worth as much as a diamond that was created by the earth because instead it was man-made in a lab. But the idea of doing something useful with someone that has passed sounds great to me! Who doesn't like diamonds? When I die that is what I want done with my ashes- I want to be turned into a diamond that someone would want to wear or at least keep.
What do you think of this? What do you want done when you die?

Believe it or not the first time I heard about this I was watching some show on TV, and the plot was about a stolen
diamond and that diamond was someones remains. I personally
would consider doing that with my remains, but I am sure
some of my family members would be uncomfortable with the
idea. But the idea of commemorating the life of someone by turning ashes into what is currently considered a precious
gem, is just so appealing. Sometimes when you think of losing a loved one, I find that I am asking myself, just what was it all about. During your life you spend so much time trying to improve and enhance who you are and then it is all over and none of that seems to matter anymore, I think a diamond is a perfect way to culminate all of those efforts that a person has made during there stay here...S

I can't agree with you more on your idea about life- that is so true!
Lucky for me I am sure that my family would completely support my decisions on this matter. I am pretty sure that a lot of my family would do similar things. My mom wants to be a paperweight or have her ashes swirled into a glass necklace. I promised her I would wear it if she did that.
