I think the reason for this is it is very difficult to change anything that is recognized as a national thing. As Hockey is the national game, it would be difficult for cricket to become the national game. A similar thing happened long back when the national animal was to be changed from lion to tiger as there were more tigers than lions in India. It took years of discussion, before the final change took place. Anyhow I don't feel cricket needs any more recognition in the country. It already is more than a religion here. As far as PHL is concerned, it is Professional Hockey League and is conducted by EspnStar sports inspired by the professional leagues run elsewhere in the world. With this ESPN hopes to increase the standards of the game in this country. If the results from the first two editions are any sign, the game has only got worser here though. Cheers! Ram

I think that cricket is aalmost like a natonal game to us but hockey already taking the place of the national game its hard for cricket to displace it. When hockey was selected as our national game our hockey team was great and was producing great results. But cricket is not producing that great results so it will take time for us to get us as natonal games.

I think it has got nothing to do with popularity or skill. Its the fact that Hockey originated in India, that has made it the national game. In the early days, it was known as 'Poona game', having its origin in the city of Poona (Pune).
