I have been an R.N. for 30+ years with experience in ICU/CCU, dermatology, OB/GYN, same day surgery and, mostly, E.R. It is a rewarding profession and, right now, nurses are in great demand due to a shortage...especially in the U.S. I retired 2 years ago so that I would have some time to myself, to pursue my interests and to be free to travel on business with my husband. It is a great career for those who love to help others and have the capacity to feel compassion toward others. I highly recommend it.

The cons are the stress (depending where you work), the mounds of paperwork required to always protect your butt, working weekends, and shiftwork. It is also not great if you have to work a double shift to cover when more than one person calls in sick. The staff can usually cover for one or, if the hospital uses "floats", you are okay...but they are usually not equipped to cover if more than one calls in sick for the nexk shift.

yeah that is very true, but be aware also of the things that are going on specially for those who are targetting foriegn countries of the ongoing policy changes. for all we know that the moment one graduates from the nursing the said countries are not already accepting foriegn nurses. greetings. : )

I couldn't say its a fad but I guess its a trend. Like before, doctors ran the show. And there was a time when everybody wanted to be an accountant. Its funny its like people before were richer than how people are today. MOst people needed accountants 'coz more people had money. Now, people need more nurses 'coz everybody's getting sick a lot from working so hard since they need more money? Ha...
