It's about time for me to get another one done. I had my last one last March, at my 6 week check up after I had my baby. I've been kind of putting it off this year just because we're trying to have another baby and they always do it as part of the first exam. If we aren't pregnant by May, I'm going to go get one done anyway.

You should go and have one. They are not that bad...really!
You may feel more comfortable seeing a woman Dr.
Remember that it is very important in order for you to stay as healthy as you possibly can!
It is really NOT that bad! I promise!

It was not bad. the worse thing that happened was my back hurt from the cold hard exam table. The lady doctor did a great job! All seems well. Thanks for all the posts

I'm so glad that you had it done and it wasn't bad! Good for you! Sorry the table was hard. Usually, they are padded and have a pillow for your head.

I go every year like clockwork. I take my health seriously, and I know it's an uncomfortable exam, but I always get my check ups. I've never had anything aside from a yeast infection, but want to make sure everything is in proper order in my whole body. I'd rather know sooner than later if anything is wrong, so I see my gynecologist every year, and my cardiologist every year, if not sooner, if he requests it.

I have a pap every year. At 16yrs old they found precancerous cells in my cervix. I fought them for about 3yrs. They finally went away after many trips to the doctor and hospital. Now, at age 29, I still hold my breath every time I go in for one. My Mother in Law just passed away Two years ago from ovarian cancer. She hadn't been to have a pap in years. We couldn't believe that she hadn't been getting them done. She always went to the doctor for everything else. If she had been getting them done, they may have found it early. So, yes you deffinately need to get one every year, at any age. Good luck!

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mother in Law. I've heard that ovarian cancer is very sneaky because you don't really have any symptoms until it has spread. Yearly checkups are so very important!
I'm so glad you are doing well and I pray you continue to do well!

Thank you. She went to the doctor because she felt a hard ball in her stomach when she pressed on it. She also said she was constipated alot.

Te last time I had a pap smear was in Aug 2005 when I was pregnant with my baby daughter. I know I should have one yearly as well as starting to get mammograms...sigh...I just hate having those paps done---I get so upset that I sweat so hard my glasses steam up. Sounds silly I know...

About 5 years. I know I should be going but I just hate it so much. They say every year but that year goes by fast when
it's something I dread so much.

That reminds me that I need to get one too. I haven't had one since my first when I was 18. That was 3 years ago so I probably should get another one, I just want to find a female doctor to do it. Male doctor's make me uncomfortable.

Its been years since I had mine. I am single and at my age it is recommended to have pap smears yearly but I don't. The first and last pap smear I had was about ten years ago (or more than that, LOL). I am now laughing because I realized only later that you need to have the results read by a gynecologist. I was so confident that nothing was wrong with me then as the results say no malignant tissues found. The next time I went to the lab to have pap smear, I was told that they could only perform pap smear seven days before or after a monthly period. And its only a couple of days after my menstruation so I did not push through. Then it already slipped my mind after that. Call it memory gap. LOL.

I hadn't gone for a Pap Smear for about 9 years and when I was 30 I went for a check up and the test. The shock of my life came six weeks later when my doctor told me I had pre-cancerous cells, and I was at the very high end of the scale for cervical cancer if I didn't already have it. So I had to go to be freezing the cells and hope it worked and then for the next 5 years going every six months for check ups, I got the all clear. Now I go every year! I'm almost 37 and had the scare of my life because I didn't like to go for the test(lol). The lesson it taught me was to be more assertive about my health care, I want and need to be around a long, long time.

oh oh oh, that dreaded word. That is probably one of the most humiliating procedures. I hate it hate it hate it. I want to throw up just thinking of it, but I know it is best to have done. Then I hear reports all the time about women having them done and getting false negative results, so they think that they are healthy when they are not, and then it is too late. Those reading the results are not being careful enough in reading - how does it benefit to have it done over not having it done?

Thanks for reminding women that they really need to have this test every once in a while.
I used to put mine off for years and one time the doctor said, "Okay, it's your body, but I just home I'm not the one who someday has to face your family and tell them that we could have saved you if you had taken the time to have this test."
Ever since he said that, I have taken my test regularly when I have a physical. It only takes a minute or two and isn't usually any more painful than getting a shot so don't put it off ladies. You may be saving your life.

Pap smear is important, carolee. I always have my yearly pap smear. Its not comfortable but it is a must. Especially for us women. It help us to detect any unusual thing inside our reproductive system. It is better to be careful our body.

Yes I had mine last week and I HATE them but there's cancer in my family and I have two grandchildren that mean the absolute world to me, so I justify it that way I want to see my kids grow up. When I told my doctor I hated to have to do this, the doctor said yes I know and I hate doing them but even at your age there is a chance of cancer there and the doctor was good about talking and asking mw about my grand babies and whatever. That helps.

I do not remember exactly when i last had one. I get a letter for a govt. office telling me it is time for one every three years. If I do not go within a few months after receiving the letter they remind me again. I think that is really great - I do not need to think about it much at all.
