Today is March 15th - the Ides of March. Can someone please tell me if this is supposed to be a good thing or a bad thing? The term sounds daunting. It sounds bad and so far, today is leaning more towards being a bad day than a good day. What do the Ides of March mean to you?

I Roman times the expression "Ides of March" did not necessarily evoke a dark mood .. it was simply the standard way of saying "March 15." In fact the Roman calendar organized its months around just three days, each of which served as a reference point for counting the other days: Kalends (1st day of the month) Nones (the 7th day in March, May, July, and October; the 5th in the other months) Ides (the 15th day in March, May, July, and October; the 13th in the other months) And the remaining, unnamed days of the month were identified by counting backwards from the Kalends, Nones, or the Ides. For example, March 3 would be V Nones—5 days before the Nones (the Roman method of counting days was inclusive; in other words, the Nones would be counted as one of the 5 days). And you thought life was complicated these days .. just imagine trying to work out the date using the above references .. And of course Kalend .. is where we got the word calendar from .. and if I can indulge myself and be just a bit silly ... 'Ides got Nones money left in the bank by Kalend time .. hahahah !!!

Please tell me you looked that up and it didn't come from your memory bank. If so, you mustn't suffer from fibro fog. LOL! J/K. Thanks for filling me in. Actually, the 15th of March was the day my husband and I "hooked up" 15 years ago. I say hooked up because we knew each other when I was still married to my EX. At the party that night someone told him I was single now and he headed in my direction. The rest is history. Hmmm... more history.

Generally the Ides of March simply means March 15th. There's also Ides of May, July, October or the 13th day of other months. We remember it in a negative way because Julius Caesar was murdered on the Ides of March. Shakespeare said, "Beware the Ides of March" which also gives the day a negative rap. A good friend has her birthday on the Ides of March and I would always kid her about it.

I just remember it from julues ceasear being killed. Everybody always says beware of the ides of March. I am so tired from my lack of sleep these last few weeks I forgot about the ides of March , St. Patricks Day. It is a wonder I didn't forget my husbands birthday yesterday.
