What do you think about the state making it manditory for our daughters to have the HPV vaccine before being able to go into the sixth grade. If you are a parent of a girl what would you do? Would you use the "opt out" option or would you let your daughter have the vaccine. Do you think its a good idea or a bad one? do you think that the state should decide or not

I think the vacinne is a very very bad idea. I think the state having control is an even worse idea. The state should stay out of it all together. It is trying to take away the control of the parents. I feel that it is up to the parents and the teens to decide as a family if this is the right course of action for them. I would not recommend my daughter taking it if she were still young. The reason is that not enough research has been done on the long term affects that the vaccine could have. It could be potentially very dangerous and have many long term affects that have not been seen yet. Just my humble opinion. Thanks for bringing up the topic.

thank you for your humble opinion. I also agree with you that there has not been enough research done on it. i don't have a daughter either and i'm glad my son is not required to have a shot such as this. however i do have several cousins and a beautiful niece and i dont want them to have to have it. so far they are putting a clause in there about letting the parent being able to opt out but its still quite scary.

Well it seems like a bad idea to make it manditory,it seems like it should be the parents decision...On the other hand if it will keep these girls from having cancer it could be a good thing...I also have some concerns as to if this vacine has any side affects, what if it has not been proven enough and could have some type of side affect later on? thats what i would be concerned with....I know it could bring on a huge law suit if that were to case, but that means nothing when it comes to your daughters health...I don't have a daughter that age but i will have grandchildren and I just don't know how i would feel...

I do agree there. i have asked my aunt about if she will opt out or not but she says shes not sure what to do yet. i hope in a way she opts out but only time will tell.

I agree that it should be the parents decision instead of the state making it manditory. they are putting a clause in there saying that the parents can opt out for religious reasons. i believe i would probably do this until i knew more about it if i had a daughter.

I am opposed to the vaccine. It is not a cervical cancer vaccine like they claim, it is too new and there have not been enough research done on it yet, and there have already been many reported cases dangerous side effects. PLus making it mandatory infringes upon parental rights. Every state has some sort of excemption policy to allow parents to choose not to vaccinate their children and still be able to send them to school. Making ths one manditory oversteps alreay in place laws. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/141210/is_there_really_a_vaccine_for_cervical.html

MY mother has HPV, and i have a 10 year old sister. This vaccine could prevent my sister from possibly getting cervial cancer. My mom allready has the strain as well as a huge chance of getting cervial cancer... I dont think that a person should HAVE to give it to their child, but i think it shold always be an option, specially for people who live with HPV and their families. If there was a way to prevent my mom from getting sick... i know she would do it in a heartbeat... But there isnt much we can do now..
