So many people say that they can't sing. This says to me that many people fail to understand the dynamics behind the activity known as vocal performance. Those who sing and sing well have no more talent than any other human being on the planet. Singing and singing well is a matter of training and the ability to hear tones well. Yes some people have more range and depth to their preferred vocal tone but carrying a tune is something that anyone who can hear should be capable of doing.
However there is a catch! The mechanics of singing require strength, training, and control of the lungs, the respiration and thus the heart, the diaphram, and even the abdominal muscles must be strenghthened and in many cases lung capacity must also be increased. A diva or theatre performer is much like a free diver. They must teach themselves how to 'pump the bellows' of their instrument to acheive the desired tone and volume. However singing professionally as opposed to singing karaoke is like the difference between skiing the bunny slope and skiing for the olympics. However as I mentioned above. Anyone can carry a tune if they listen to themselves and they practice. Singing talent is not about talent so much as it is about ability and dedication. Which also requires a passionate love of the art.

Yeah way too many people who say "I can't sing" actually have a decent voice. Then there are some that think they are wonderful singers and they sound terrible. In both scenarios they should just listen to themselves closely. Getting singing lessons is good to help know lung control and how to sing using the diaphragm as well, but one shouldn't use that as a crutch either and still should leave room for self expression.

In such a "flow" and creationism endeavor as trying to sing well, to perform well, or to bring your own self written music to the attention of the public, there is no way that your own individual self expressioon can not come to the table with you! This is why music is considered to be an art and the performance thereof is performance art. It is like a beatifully built sand castle on the edge of an incoming tide each live performance because they will never perform live exactly the same way again.
