How to stop the whining?

My kids like to whine a lot, and ask the same question over and over again.Can we watch TV, I tell them no, they keep asking and whining and asking. I never give in, I don't know why they think I will.
How do I stop the whining?

Tr to redirect them. When they ask if they can watch tv and you say no instead try something like I know you want to watch tv but why don't you color me a picture or why don't you get the play dough out. I don't know your kids ages but this gives you an idea of things to try. Just give them a choice of 2 other things they can do. HTH

yeah that doesn't work work with mine too much, unfortunately they inherited my stubborn streak

The attention things sounds just about right. When our son starts his whining thing and wont stop. We have to step up the punishiment. It works quite well. This does not always mean a spanking. Use what they will understand.

Ah yes, I used to give them time outs but then they stopped being upset about them, so I started giving their favorite toys timeouts. But I haven't been very diligent about that one lately.
Maybe I need to be more constant with it.

Unplug the TV and tell them it won't come on. :) As for whining, we had a "whine cellar" when my son was younger. Also known as sitting on the bed in his bedroom.
When they keep asking for something tell them "If you keep asking will my answer be 'Yes' or will it be 'go to your room for the rest of the day?'
It takes 2 to argue. Put on some headphone and listen to music. Give them some chores to do (washing the fronts of appliances, washing wood work, sweeping the floor, sorting laundry), etc.

LOL, actually my husband thinks they learned it from me. I don't believe him though. I have tried that, and it just encourages them I think.
