My husband got his first job since getting a phd. We picked up and moved to Ithaca, NY. This was hard for me because we have a kid and we are leaving all of his grandparents behind. So far, it's been fine. I haven't made any friends, but family has come out to visit. I think I need to find a job and get off the computer.

Where did you move from? Ithaca can be a big adjustment because it's basically a college town. Walking down the main street it's like -- bar, bar, grandma's house, bar, bar, grocery store... Have you experience harsh winters before? If not, let me warn you that you will be in for some big snow!

Oh yes, I know! I'm originally from MI. Same weather. At least this place is beautiful landscape wise. The other big thing is that my husband has a job! That wasn't going to happen in MI. You are also right about the bar and grandma's house thing. Are you in Ithaca or have you just visited?

I'm originally from Rochester NY. So I am very familiar with Ithaca and the surrounding area. enjoy your time there. And when summer comes, don't forget the check out Stony Brook park. it's not to far from you. There's an awesome gorge with great waterfalls that you can swim in. my favorite place in almost all of NY.
