Has anyone heard of the DORE programme?

It is a series of exercise designed to improve or cure ADHD, dyslexia, dyspraxia etc. working on the assumption that the cerebellum in a person with these conditions has not developed properly at birth. It seems an interesting assumption and we are looking into using it with our 12yo. Has anyone heard of it or anything like it? I believe it was developed in the U.K.

Hi Missy, I had the lady here last summer about Bong, it seems to be a good programme as long as your child is able to concentrate on doing the same exercises every day for longer each time up to about 10 minutes twice a day. It is quite expensive but may work on an older child, I do not know anyone who has actually done the course. Bong cannot concentrate for long enough for it to be worht trying, the lady we saw didn't think it would help as she sdidn't think he would do the tasks, don't take this as a negative tho' Bong has Autism too so it's slightly different. I wish you all the best looking into this and hope you find something that helps your little one.

Thanks for your response and PM. We haven't heard any more about it yet but anything is worth a try when it is your kids.

I do not know much about it, but I do remember seeing something on one of the current affairs programs (might have been today tonight as that is the one I watch the most). There was a boy who swore at everyone and even his big sisters were afraid of him. By doing the exercises, he changed and became a calm little boy, and his family was not afraid of him anymore.

14missy, i talked to these people and alot of what they told me makes sense. they have a 93% success rate. The cost is about $4800 dollars, but they have payment options available. You find the center nearest to you and take your child in for testing for a day, then return about every 6 weeks. The program is for 12 months to 18 months. They said that most kids have made improvements within the first 2 months to the point of not needing the same dosage of meds or are able to go off meds and still be able to function. If you would like to contact me, email at finholl@yahoo.com.

Thanks for your comments. We have decided that $5000 is way too much for us to find at the moment. I have come accross another programme that is very similar except the children don't see all the doctors. We have already seen heaps of doctors now though and she is under a paed at the moment. The programme is called breakthrough learning and they have a website. Have a look.

I've never heard of this and am glad you brought up this discussion up on it. I am now planning to do some research on it via internet. I would love to help my almost 10 year old son with his ADHD. I really hate needing to give him medication. The medication has done wonders for him but an alternative would be excellant!

I looked up EMC and saw the post you talked about. I put a response up there also. I didn't realise how expensive it was though. I'll still wait and see what these people have to say. Thanks for your response.

Thanks a lot for this information. My son attends class with a boy who is dyspraxic and I am also friends with his mom. She moves heaven and earth for her son to get him every advantage available to him and I will pass along the info to her. Thanks again!

I hope it helps. The DORE programme is very expensive but sounds like it does a good job. I will talk to our paed. about it later this week and let you all know what he says.

This is very interesting, and I am researching this. I have 4 children, with 2 diagnosed with ADHD. I fear that my 4 y/o twins are starting to show signs of ADHD. It would be so nice to have a cure or something that didn't involve meds to help these children who long to lead a normal life.

I'm hoping that there is something in this as my daughter just hates taking tablets but knows she isn't good without them either...It is a viscious circle I'm afraid.
