I have two yorkies and both of them seem to have some kind of breathing problem. When they get a little excited they sometimes go into a breathing attack where they weese and gasp for air. If this is something I should try to take care of please let me know.

this sounds like something serious. i dont think its normal that your dogs cant breath. you should pobably take them to the vet. maybe its nothing, but it wouldnt hurt.

I used to have two papillons that would do that. The vet said that their trachea closes sometimes when they get very excited. He said that it was not too dangerous. What helped them when they would get that attack is to rub their neck's with a little bit of force to help it work it out.

This is very, very common in small dogs. My Pom has it too. He also does it when he is excited. It is supposedly a collapsed trachea issue. It isn't harmful, just sounds scary!

I have a yorkie also. i did some research just now online and this is what i find! maybe it will help us both. good luck and be blessed. Yorkshire Terriers are quite sensitive to many medications. They don't like cold or rain and should wear a sweater in cold weather. Most common health issues include: Legg-Calve-Perthes Disease Portosystemic Shunt Patellar Luxation Tracheal Collapse Retinal Dysplasia

My toy poodle does this too sometimes. I asked my vet and he says it is call a "backwards sneeze"(like a hiccup). I told him that when it happens I pat her on the back and she stops, he said thats fine aand they pass on there own. Apparently it's common in little dogs.

My two dogs, a schaunzer & a jack russell, both have weak windpipes. Both will snore when they are sleeping. Hence, whenever, i bring my dogs out, i can't use those traditional leash but use one that actually goes below the belly thru' their legs. That really helps them and if i were to pull, they are not choked by the traditional leash. Hope that helps...
