How do you feel about people cheating the profanity filter?

It seems like I see a lot of people inserting hyphens or spaces or whatever to include profanity in their discussions. I'm guessing that myLot has a profanity filter to prevent people from typing in those words and having them appear. So if that's the rules, should people just follow those rules? Don't people agree to follow the rules when they sign up? Do you report people who do this? Just blow it off? Neg them?

I have noticed this many times on myLot. I believe that if the use of these words is against myLot rules, then those dodging the rule by inserting asterisks, ampersands etc are in breach of the rules. I have never reported this, or negatively rated them, but I immediately leave the discussion when I see one, even when it is a discussion I really want to comment on. You have raised a good point and I think it is one which should be raised with myLot. I will private mail myLot, seeking their opinion, and maybe others could do the same.

I have contacted myLot about this but haven't received a reply yet. I'll post their reply here when I receive one.

i don't think we can report them on this.. Its a gray area however it does bother me that people do this because really anyone can spell out what they are saying and really there are more than enough words in the english dictionary to be used in place of them. Have you reported anyone and actually seen anything done about it?

No, I haven't reported anyone for this. I was just curious what other people thought about it.

yes there's a filter, it stopped me from posting a questionable word one time although i didn't put/use that word in a bad way.. I don't know about reprting abuse but if someone is using abusive language tward other member/s (even if disgusing it) it should be reported and the post deleted but I think implying certain swear words jokingly or for humor can be ok.

That's kind of the way I'm handling it now. I do think that if people agree to myLot's rules when they sign up then they ought to follow them.
