If anyone has any ebay questions feel free to ask. I am a powerseller & have a lot of experience. My goal this year is to become a powerseller with both of my ebay names. Yes you can sell with 2 different names or as many as you would like. Ever see 2 sellers selling the same stuff & only a slightly different format? Printer cartridges are a perfect example. You just can't bid on your own stuff.

I've only ever sold one item on ebay but most of my attempts to sell a variety of items has been without success. Often I will go to sell a book or an LP and I will check to see if it is already bening sold - and when I see that my record or book is already being sold for an extremely low profit margin I cannot see the point of listing my items. I have kept watch items being sold by T-shirt sellers (as I have also sold screenprinted T-shirts in the past) but they never seem to sell. I wonder how these guys make any money. I feel that ebay charges to much for placing items and selling them. If it doesn't sell they shouldn't charge anything in my opinion. However, what advice could you give for a relative newcomer to ebay? What is a power seller?

A powerseller is a seller who meets a certain sales quota. In the USA it is $3,000 in sales within 90 days I think. In the UK all you have to do is sell 100 items a month. There are a lot of US citizens listing in the UK just to be a powerseller. Ebay does charge too much. For me to list an item with a photo for auction with a starting bid of 1 to 99 cents costs me 55 cents regardless if anyone bids or not. Then they charge a final value fee if it sells. Then if the buyer uses paypal I have to pay 35 cents so you can see it isn't worth selling anything for a dollar. The way a t-shirt seller works is quantity. Are the items buy it now or auction. If they were buy it now items what the seller did was list them in their ebay store. It costs $15.95 a month but it only costs 6 cents to list an item in your store for 30 days. When it only has 7 days left it will get listed in with the auctions. That is how they can have 1,000 t-shirts for sale. They only paid $60 where it would cost $550 to list them all for auction. To get extra traffic to their store they probably list a few shirts for 99 cents just to get lookers. Feedback also helps. My sales tripled when I reached 800 or so in feedback. My biggest months were September, October & November. I sell seeds. I wondered why they didn't buy like that in the spring. I can only guess it was the feedback because I sold more this year that I did last & I am not even trying. And I am only listing in my store until next week. It saved me hundreds. If you are going to do it to really make money you can't have the build it and they will come attitude. You have to treat it as any other business. It takes a little strategy. It matters when you list your auctions. You want them to end during peak times. Friday is not a good day because a lot of people get paid & go out on Friday so you get no bids. However Sunday most people are home & it is the best day for an auction to end. The same with summer. Most people are outside & not on the computer so unless you sell something relevant to them you will not get as many bids. Some of my best days last summer were during the hurricanes. It was raining every where so most of the USA were inside. You have to take advantage of the store to make it on ebay unless you have stuff that everyone wants. Books are a perfect example. Only so many people are looking for that specific book at a given time. So you list it in the store for $2 which is more than you would make if it sold for $3 on auction. You have to see which option pays you the most. You are a clever ape & I am sure you will do well if you set your mind to it. Books that I know sell are beatnik books like Charles Bukowski, Burroughs, Keroak, Ginsberg, Plath. Just like with mylot the more specific the item the less people will respond. If you have any questions please feel free to ask.

here's a couple questions for you....I have an old St. Christopher medallion that I can NOT find one like it anywhere (it was my grandmothers)...its sterling silver, hallmarked (but somewhat hard to make out the last marking "S") and I want to sell it but dont know if I should put a reserve on it or get it appraised first or what..... Also we have a HUGE lot of vintage stamps but trying to figure out which is which yr (issued) we're having a hard time deciding how to list them...Some of them are blocks of 4 or more, some have the lot number on them and so on.... any suggestions?

Thank you for your post. I'd like to tell you that the CAPS are for emphasis & not yelling. I have to clear that up every time I use them. I can tell you that you will get less with a reserve. No matter what you will more than likely get less. Depending on how much it costs to get it appraised have it done. Sterling silver isn't worth very much but I am no jeweler and it my have antique value. The appraisal certificate might bring you extra bids. Lets put a value on it for example. If it is worth $75 & you put a reserve of $55 and it sells for $55. I bet it would have sold for $60 or more. A LOT of people on ebay will not bother to waste their time bidding on something they will not get. I myself fall into the category. IF YOU USE A RESERVE put the reserve amount in the auction. Then people like me will say "I'll pay $55 for that. Explaining why you have a reserve & saying the reserve amount can make or break a reserve auction. The stamps can be sold in a lot of different ways. Before you do anything you should do a search on ebay for completed stamp auctions. Look to see what the guys did who actually got bids on their stamps & find out what is different about them or their stamps. 1 You can sell them in bulk by weight. I did this with a pound of stamps. I sold it in 32 half ounce lots. 2 You can categorize them such as animals, trains, cars, fish, flowers, etc... Categories can have subcategories like Bears, Cats, Dogs, Snakes, etc... 3 You can sell them by the country that printed them. 4 You can sell them individually if you know they are worth listing. 5 List them by the face value. Like here is 17 8 1/2cents stamps. 6 You can make auctions of just 10- 20 different stamps. This might not bring as much if they had a theme like flowers, birds, fish, snakes. There are certain things people collect. If you have more questions please feel free to ask.

I have a question about the multiple accounts. How do you sign up for the second account? Can you use the same email address and paypal account? What are the benefits to having more than one account?

Thanks. I only have one account now that I use to both sell and buy, but I guess I should look into getting another account. I have at times wondered about selling mature audience things, and how my regular cutomers would feel about that. I could see me using the second account for that reason.

hello there I used to be an avid Ebay buyer but last year I start my own business and I sold an old equipment on Ebay. Since then I thought it's a good idea to use Ebay to sell outdated inventory which is working but kind of replaced by digital ones and so I have no need for it. Now I have a friend who is interested in using my ID to sell her stuffs which is paintings and old records. Some of these paintings are hers, some she just bought at a yardsale. I don't know if this is safe, but on the other hand if I offer to sell her stuffs on Ebay instead I don't know which way is best.

You should have her take the photos as well as write a description. Then you list it on ebay. Let her know what it will cost regardless if it sells or not. Don't want her to get mad because she might be paying you if it doesn't sell. I don't know if you meant by let her use it. I wouldn't let anyone into my ebay account except my girlfriend who does some of the work. You can never be too careful.

I have an ebay question for you. How can I get involved with a wholesale or drop shipper? I would like to increase my sales on Ebay, but I need to be able to have more inventory that I myself don't have to store. Any information on this would be helpful and greatly appreciated.
