I have been praying for an opportunity to help the orphaned children struggling to survive in Africa. The pain and suffering that has been going on in the region has weighed heavily on my heart. The problems in Durban, South Africa are so large and devastating I often have thought to myself, how can I one person make any difference what is going on in Africa? While watching the Oprah Winfrey show yeterday, she mentioned a group called The International Breast Milk Project or IBMP. This group sends donor breast milk and funding for milk bank development from the United States to children who have been orphaned by HIV in Africa. For these children, this donated breastmilk provides them with lifesaving nourishment. The group made its first shipment of donated breastmilk last April to an orphanage in Durban, South Africa called iThemba Lethu. This past year they donated 6000 ounces of breastmilk (46 gallons) to the needy orphans. The donated breasmilk has come from breastfeeding moms from all over the United States. This is such a great opportunity to reach out and help needy orphans in Africa. It is simple and supplies and transport of your stored breast milk is all covered by the organization. For more information about The International Breast Milk Project or to find about becoming a donor or make a donation please check out their website www.breastmilkproject.org If you are a breastfedding mom, join me in participating in this project and spread the word to other bf moms. The next shipment of breast milk will be shipped out next month.
