How much sleep do you need?

On an average night, how many hours of sleep do you try to get to feel well-rested the next day? Do you wake up feeling rested and ready to go, or do you always feel like you need just a few more minutes?

It is quite strange for me.Sometimes i have slept for 10 hours ,but i still feel exhauste the next day and nearly fall a sleep, but sometimes i just slept for 4 or 5 hours , I could stil feel refresh the next day and I do not even fall asleep at that day. I triedto find out the reasons.Someone told me normally if one person can actually sleep for 4 hours fully, every parts of your bodu get enough rest, if not ,for example, you wake up few times when you are sleeping ,you are going tofell tired the next day even you have slept for 10 hours.

What I learnt that medical research has recommended about 8 hours to sleep. I usually have about 6 hours sometimes 5, due to my activities on the net apart from the daily working in office. I really feel, after having this sleep, comfortable and need no more. Sometimes, especially in summer season when days are longer enough, if it is possible, I avail day time for half an hour to take rest.

well considering I've been dealing with insomnia for oh so many yrs...I can function (and did every night for yrs) fairly well on 2 - 3 hours of broken up sleep..These days though I am on medication to help me sleep so I'm sleeping between 4-6 hrs a night now which is just fine...any more than that and I become really disoriented LOL

It used to be 10 until my youngest was born. Now I am dealing with insomnia as well, but I am finding that taking my vitamins (which includes an all natual, vegetarian mulit vitamin, greens pill and a product called Acai Plus) really helps me to not feel tired.

Oh, I have such sleep issues. 8 hours has always worked best for me, but I go through waves of sleepless nights, more specifically awakening at about 3:00 and sometimes not going back to sleep....so I function on about 5 hours. After I do this for about 3-7 nights, I end up sleeping really good the followiong night.....I rarely ever get more than 8.

I've found that I need to get at least 7-8 hours sleep a night in order for me to feel really good the next day. If I don't sleep well, I feel sluggish and sometimes get a headache the next day. I've never really been a nightowl..lol!

I know I don't get enough sleep. No matter what I do I wake up way earlier than I need to and then can't go back to sleep. I seem to always be tired these days. Am really looking forward to spring when I can get outside more and get fresh air, I am hoping that will help.

I need a regular 6-7 hours to function properly the day after. I can go a few days with less but it catches up with me. I find it impressive when people manage on just a few hours each and every day. I read some research recently that said that those who work a shift pattern cut as much as 5 years off their life span because the body can't establish a proper routine, don't know whether this is true ot not.
