Woow WIndows Vista.. what a hot subject i can say. I have talked a lot in my area with many of my friends and all of them had only positive thoughts about it. I can say that i was blow off by this new windows system. Some things certainly lack to it but this new look which Microsoft has incorporated in it certainly do the money you would give for it. I have waited this new system for 2 weeks and here i am using it. It was pretty hard for me to buy it because in my area it can't be found. So i had to ask a friend from another part of my country to order me. I am so happy using it and all i have are only words of gratitdue. I post here a short description about VISTA. Windows Vista contains hundreds of new features; some of the most significant include an updated graphical user interface (GUI) and visual style dubbed Windows Aero, improved searching features, new multimedia creation tools such as Windows DVD Maker, and completely redesigned networking, audio, print, and display sub-systems. Vista also aims to increase the level of communication between machines on a home network using peer-to-peer technology, making it easier to share files and digital media between computers and devices. For developers, Vista includes version 3.0 of the .NET Framework out of the box. The .Net Framework makes it significantly easier for developers to write high-quality applications than with the traditional Windows API.

I have a feeling that what Taskr36 said will be true. Windows Vista might be end up like what happened to Windows ME only a flowered version of Windows 98 then Microsoft build Windows XP. Now when Microsoft realizes that Windows Vista give them more problem than customer then they will create new operating system like they did in Windows ME. Perhaps they will build an operating system with a name "Windows Panorama" to save their shame from VISTA. Then people will again jump to upgrade and Microsoft will have the billions of money.

pornlover, you can turn off all the Aero, 3D, drop shadow, nonsense and tell Vista to look and work like XP. Your pc should then work a bit faster.

You do have to have a good computer to run vista as it takes up so much space, you may have to upgrade your existing computer before you can add vista and anything over 18 months old probably won't be able to run vista without upgrading first.

512MB is the minimum for memory, atleast double it for better performance, you also need a compatible video adapter for vista. Do download MS Vista advisor from microsoft to better know if your system support this OS

if your 80 gig hard drive is one big partition and you want to go faster than my old pentium 3 you might want to partition it so that one partition is reserved for the operating system only. Or the lazy way is to have nothing on the drive apart from the OS, that means no films, music etc etc.

you say that XP is faster than vista and I agree. But you don't know that win2k is in turn faster than XP. lol. Win98 is faster than win2k but it crashes all the time so it stops at win2k. also if you want to search anything with win2k you simply enter ctr+f and type what it is you are looking for, with xp it takes twice as long and you have to use your mouse. There are many such examples. Good for beginners I guess.

just to add to it, xp will constanly waste your time taking you by hand to "discover" that there are "unused items on the desktop" and "what do you want to do after inserting a cd rom" and so on and so forth. Takes 2 hours to set the computer to shut up each time I am fixing somebody else's machine.

At this point XP still is a better OS as compared to Vista maybe because it is a new OS, therefore software and hardware companies may need some time to develop devices and software for this flatform. As far as harware compatibility is concerned, Vista requirements are definitely higher as compared with that of Xp. Mainly because there has been huge improvements on GUI and other system processes. If you are using p3 or old versions of p4, you shouldn't attempt to install it, it will just be a waste of time.

that depends on your pc configuration. if you don't have at least 1 gb ram then it will slowdown your pc. another problem is there : some devices don't have vista supported drivers. otherwise vista has no problem.
