Why do priests do the "Do as I say, not as I do" motto?

i find it funny that the church is always talking about what they don't like about politics and society in general, not worrying about if they're talking about something which refers to catholics only or not. But when the goverment does something they don't like they saying, but anybody can say anything to them about what they do because "religious stuff is only their business". I think this is not fair, what do you think?

Priests are mere humans just like the rest of us, it is dangerous for them to believe and preach that they are "above or better" than their congregation in my opinion. I would not attend a church where the head of that church believes he is better or more important than anyone else. My Pastor is the most humble man I have ever met. Which is why our church is so full we are packed to the rafters most Sundays.

As with all human groups, there are good and bad pastors/priests etc. It's more the official church i'm talking about, those who rule...talking about poverty and all that....closing their eyes to what happens in reality.

Do as I say and not as I do is saying obviously made up to cover up the nasty goins on inside the churchs altogether if you think about - I mean, back in the 20's 40's and through thr 70's people were devote catholics and were pretty much living life through the church and doing what the priests were telling them all to do in life. It still happens today but not as wide spread as it used to be though - the priests have ruined lives of many innocent children who were raped - terrible. Do AS I SAY is bull and I think we all know it now since the lies have been exposed. If we followed what the priests do in their personal life we would all be rapists then too.

The Roman Catholic Church has been the most powerful institution in the history of mankind for the longest period of time. Roughly since about three hundred years after the demise of Jesus Christ, the Catholic Church has been king maker, deal breaker social guardian - I would say things began and ended with the Catholic Church. Some measure of its power is what helped the Crusades happen and the Saracen driven from Spain etc back to the east where they came from. Since the reformation, the Catholic Church's influence has slowly waned and there are now very few countries in the world where the Church is even politely listened to when it comes to politics. Separation of religion and the State has been a hard battle for us to have won, and it would be sad to see it go back to any religion. I agree with the old statement - Give unto Ceaser his due and to God his due".

Religion has a very big influence in people. The church is supposed to keep the people moral and upright. When Officials in government do immoral things, the church will certainly say something because, how a person behaves is always their concern. Governance, they don't have a say. Even if the church says a lot of things concerning the government but they keep out of governance. Most of the time they provide only guidance of what should be and what should not be. Priest's wants us to follow what they say but not do as I do because we have our own decisions and things to do. Priests are just humans too and may do things which are contradictory to what they preach.

I think you hit the right key here. Priests are humans, hence they commit the same mistakes than the rest of us. What i cannot stand about them is not that, but the fact that many of them judge you from a moral point of view, when those mistakes are merely a result of being far from perfect as humans, just the same as them. They shouldn't judge so lightly and try to help more.
