When Did Obeying the Law Become a Fireable Offense?

People didn't believe me when I talked about how dangerous HR 254 is but the spirit behind it has already started to take effect. General Pace spoke out in defense of a law that is already on the books regarding the military the other day and now the liberal media and homosexual activists are demanding that he be fired for it.
Excuse me, but when did the Constitution get overturned? When did General Pace lose his rights to free speech?

It isn't for defending the law that he is being asked to resign. It is for stating his personal belief that homosexuality is immoral. I happen to agree with him, but people holding public office are not supposed to state their personal beliefs. Just saying he believed we should uphold the existing law would have been adequate.
I hope he isn't fired. I believe that people make mountains out of molehills nowdays and you can hardly open your mouth any more without offending someone. Still, those in public office do have to be more careful about what they say whether we like it or not. Just like our soldiers are told not to express opinions about the President, who is their Commander-In-Chief while they are in uniform.

I disagree that people in public office should have to restrain themselves from expressing their beliefs. I don't see anywhere in the law that says someone serving in the military or in public office has to give up their right to freedom of religion or freedom of speech.
The point to the whole situation is that if he is fired for expressing his views, where does it stop? When do they start regulating the rest of us?
As far as soldiers being told not to express opinions about the President, that's a matter of morale and keeping the military unified. It is more for their protection than for the President. If the officers continually speak negatively about their leaders, it breaks down their ability to work side by side as a unit.
