Movies that are based on video games

Throughout the year I've noticed movies that were based on video games tend to fail most of time due to their poor plots, stories and character roles. The only movie I considered close to being a great video game movie was Resident Evil and Apocalypse. How about yourself? Which ones you liked or dis-liked?

I actually liked the first part of the Lara Croft - Tomb raiders series. I thought that it was a good game to movie adaptation. Since then, I have been generally disappointed with movie adaptation of the games especially Doom was miserable. I just hope they stop making movies out of games and concentrate on good scripts. Yes I forgot about the Tomb Raider series, they did work out OK but Doom did really suck, another was Freddy versus Jason and also Alien versus Predator. Final Fantasy spirits within....I am still not sure if that movies was even based from the game, if it was they really blew it. Final Fantasy Childrens Advent was a good animation movie they potrayed the FF7 game nicely.

In terms of adptation from video games to the big screen i think Street Fighter is by far the worst, maybe because i was such a fan of the game and the movie delivered so poorly, in other hand Silent Hill recreated nearly to the perfection the unsetling mood of the videogame, the plot and the characters were great, it´s a really good terror movie.

A few movies I have seen based on games worked out OK were Mortal Combat, Silent Hill, X men, Resident Evil, Super Mario Bros. and Street Fighter. However like you said there is a lot out there that really sucked as movies.

i liked the first tomb raider movie, Mortal Kombat, final fantasy. let's see if the Tekken movie will push thru in 2009

I really liked the first Tomb Raider movie & both Resident Evil movies. I liked Doom too, but then again, I never really finished the game so I can't really compare. And the Mortal Kombat movies were classic. Love them.

i agree with you.those movies are classic movies.i love those movies.feel like watching them again and again.i hope to see such movies in the future.

there are rumors circulating that they will make a movie out of the God of war videogame series. i just hope that it would be good. At least they should be true to the game and maybe get a good actor to play the role of Kratos. it would be cool if they include those swinging sceenes from God of war 2. That would totally be kick A$$.

I've only seen the resident evil but I can say that the game is better.
