Virus and Worms I pretty much understand but up to now I don't really know what a spam is? I've read of many topics warning of spams and tips on how to avoid them but how can I react when the whole spam concept is still vague to me. Can somebody please try to enlighten me?

A Spam is an unsolicited email. Most internet marketers use it to send mass emails to email addresses, even if they do not request for such emails. It can get annoying at times when you get too much email in your inbox which basically contains the same content, only different email subjects. SPAM is a nuisance.

Spam has nothing really to do with destruction and destructive instruments like virus and worms. It has more to do with being irritative. The word "Spam" as applied to Email means Unsolicited Bulk Email. An email is "spam" if: - the recipient's personal identity and context are irrelevant because the message is equally applicable to many other potential recipients; AND - the recipient has not verifiably granted deliberate, explicit, and still-revocable permission for it to be sent. For more details check out the following two URLS: http://www.spamhaus.org/definition.html http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/E-mail_spam Cheers! Ram
