What's the excuse THIS time?

OK...I'm about fed up with the stories we're fed about why gasoline and fuel prices keep going higher and higher.
They say it's all about "supply & demand"...how China and other 'growing economies' are buying so much more now than just a few years ago...and how refinery 'maintenance' or 'unexpected shutdowns' contribute to higher costs at the pumps.
OK, I'll accept SOME of that as being true enough.
But.....DO THEY THINK WE'RE REALLY THAT STUPID?
Lately, it seems prices are rising but the oil companies don't seem to be in too much of a hurry to explain why anymore. Almost seems like they're out of excuses...or they're just plain "in-your-face" and saying "suck it up folks"!
What do YOU think? Do YOU believe we're being HOSED?

I really think we are getting hosed, here in canada, my city Thunder Bay gas prices are $1.05/litre. I realy hate to see what it's going to be in the summer when demand is higher. If the fuel companies today put the price of fuel to $2.00, $2.50 even $3.00/litre they know they will get people to pay it, we have to keep moving, going to work, etc. people would not be happy but will still pay it. The solution to this is if everyone got together and just said enough is enough and refused to pay it, a message needs to be sent. Each country has huge reserves of fuel that no one has ever run through, so what's the excuse for high prices? Just the rich getting richer and seeing how far they can push it before people refuse to pay anymore. Everyone complains about the price but they still pay it.

I think you hit it on the head!
It's interesting to watch the prices go up & down ("interesting"...not necessarily "fun"). Seems like Big Oil has a pretty good 'read' on people's needs and wants...and yes, they can tell just about how far they can go before people start limiting their driving.
Sad...we need another "Boston Tea Party"!!!
Thanks for the post & interesting comments.

They are all the same, except in Saudi Arabia, maybe. In my own country, which is a major oil exporting country, the government has increased prices by more than 10 folds and more than 10 times since 1999, in tandem with increases in prices in the world market. They stupidly cite higher import prices of the refined fuel, since they have refused to attend to the ailing refineries at home. Any oil price increase in the world market is a curse to us instead of being a blessing. Since all socio-economic activities revolve around energy, its high price has depressed further the ailing economy, worsening the poverty situation. It is ironic how we get poorer here as our oil gets better prices almost everyday.
