Children in Television

What do you think about television shows featuring children in competitions like singing, dancing and acting? Personally, I like watching them appearing on tv doing their craft. It is very entertaining to see very talented children. I believe that it is to these children's advantage if their talents are being cultivated early in life.

Some are cute alright... but I feel that children are getting more "adult" nowadays - as least for similar competitions in Singapore. They are dressed like adults, sing and dance and seduce like adults... I in fact feel that we should ban such competitions! It's like robbing children of their childhood.

I can see your point. It's not good to rob the chidren of their childhood. I enjoy watching those competitions where children are competing as children. They're so cute and lovely and their talents are amazing. Makes me remember my kids while they were very young. I don't believe I'd enjoy it when they are made to appear and act as adults. We have so many of them around us at all times, from home to work and wherever, those adults I mean who we continuously rub elbows with like it or not.

you have a point here lordwarwizard. some kids are being forced to act not by their age anymore. that's sad. parents should make their kids who participate in such programs still enjoy their childhood. just balancing everything while having their talents nurtured even in an early age.

Yes, I've noticed that some kids are enticed to find out the talents of their own once they see those kids performing on tv. Our kids can show the talents they have, not necessarily on tv. It could be that they perform and show their antics to please the family like mom, dad, grandma, uncle, etc. They're funny at times but definitely, they make us happy.

Actually, children's gifted with God_given talent are lucky. And it depends on the circumstances whether everybody including the child will be cooperative and agree that he/she would like to explore his/her talent. If he/she did with the permission of the elders, then GOOD! . If the child does not like to explore his/her talent then don't force her. There is so much time for him or her to decide whether to reveal that talent or not. What is important is everybody agrees on one thing. To show or not to show that talent. But personally, I admire children with talents. Have a nice day!

whenever i see such shows, i feel sad for myself. well, basically because as i remember, i had been a shy girl back then. i know i have talents but i don't have the courage to show it. it was only in highschool when i started spreading my wings. but well, we all do have our time. i just thought that i could have been a greater person if i had not been too shy before. hehe. but actually, such shows are great. it gives young kids today inspirations to get on with what they wanna do in life, share their talents and show it to the world! not only that, they get to have the chance to make their parents so proud of them.

Hi trinidadvelasco, I think there is some link between you and me.Just now while having my dinner, I was watching a similsr prog. named BOOGIE WOOGIE [in India its a very popular dance talent prog],and I was thinking that I should discuss this on mylot and then I opened the net and I found that you stole my topic[just joking].No problem friend, but I too like you, am astonished to see these kids performing so well.My daughter too likes dancing and also has that style to dance, but her father is totally in oppose to dances[affected by some cultural background of India]and tells her to pay full attention on studies. Getting too much personal! But thats the way friends are! o.k. BYE...

Nice to know that you have a child who is good at dancing. It will be good to help her develop it. But if the father is against it, I don't know if you could at least allow her to keep on dancing even if it will be just for the school acts. You know the joy one feels just by being able to show one's talents.

Programs like these are suppposed to encourage children to come out and show their talents. Try to see whatever talents your kids have which may be tapped. It will be a fruitful, joyful and also disappointing experience they will be going through. Kind of teaches plenty of lessons to a kid with a simple brush of having to compete. This will make them more understanding of life's ups and downs.

exposure is what they need. a way for them to show their talents. so there's nothing wrong with children joining contests in tv.

For me, it will do a lot of good for those kids who are interested to be seen on tv. So, yes, there's nothing wrong with it.

I enjoy watching the children perform on tv but they should not be forced to do so, if they are not comfortable with it. I have seen some of the spelling bees they have on ESPN with the kids and some of them got so stressed out they have passed out or gotten sick. I am not sure how healthy it is for some of them to be on tv at an early age. Some of them love it which is great and seeing them show off their talents is wonderful.

Spelling Bees and similar competitions which entails studying too much, will really be very trying for these kids. My daughter and I have been there. I know how the pressure works. These kids who are participating in these types of competitions though, like it winning so they do everything they can. Parents will have to regulate the time these kids spend studying too much and foregoing with sleep and sufficient rest. I love seeing those kids display their talents in singing, dancing and the like. They are amazing.
