What do you think of how the Toyotas are doing in Nextel?

With this week's qualifying in Atlanta there are only 3 Toyotas in the field. Two of them made it in on time and Jarrett took another (limited) past champions provisional. There were 3 Toyotas that went home including owner Michael Waltrip. I know that they have an uphill battle to break into the field but I really thought that it wouldn't have been quite as difficult as it has been. Toyota is amazing in the truck series. Why is the change to NEXTEL proving so difficult?

They're are a lot of cars that go home each week. Even ones who are from or have motors from very established teams. Toyota knew it was going to be an uphill battle I think that is why they decided to help fund teams with multiple cars. If DEI and Dale Jr. Don't get something figured out soon, they'll be having to race their way in too. 3 Toyotas did go home but there was also 5 other cars that went home and 1 team that has pulled out the rest of the season. As for Jarrett something needs to be stepped up he only gets 2 more provisionals then he'll have to race his way in like everyone else. I think once they get all the in's and out's of all the technical things figured out they'll be alright. It's not like they can go to other teams to get chasis and motors like the Ford, Chevy, and Dodge teams can. I do feel sorry for Mickey, he has put a lot of time, resources, and money into his teams and it just hasn't panned out yet. On the up side Toyota has won a Busch race alreadty this season. And Mickey has already hit the wall in the Busch race today and it just got started!

I'm no DJ fan so the sooner he's out of provisionals the happier I'll be. I guess having him getting into the races is hopefully helping them figure somethings out that may help the others get in. It's just that 50% of the Toyotas are going home. That's making for a tougher learning curve. I know there are other teams going home and that only the top 35 in points get a "by" into each race I just wonder what Toyota was thinking to start up new teams instead of trying to get more into the existing teams like they did with Blaney. He's doing well with the Toyota. I enjoy MW but I think he bit off a little too much with this deal. I'm not sure the team is going to be able to survive. All the best though.

I would have to agree Mickey has bit of a bit more than he can chew, but Toyota says they are still standing behind him all the way as long as the don't have any repeats of Daytona
