Avoid Re-boiling The Kettle

Do you find yourself flicking the kettle on all through the day to make yourself just one cuppa? I used to. But now I keep a Thermos by the kettle, and after boiling the kettle in the morning, I fill it and use the boiled water throughout the day. This saves time and electricity, and avoids the noise of reboiling! It can also save water, as I use this water to dampen my kitchen sponge, instead of running the tap till the water gets hot. And it means that I have instant cold water when I need it, as I'm not accessing the hot water from the tap.

Thank you Megan for responding to my discussion, it does save your money when you are not boiling your kettle all the time.

My parent did just that all my life and still do, I'm not sure when they started doing it but I always remember them dong it. When I first left home and moved into my flat I was doing the same it just seemed to make so much sense. We don't bother doing it now as none of us are big hot drinks fans and we can go for days on end without using the kettle but if we were using the kettle a lot then yeah I think I would go back to using a flask.

Brilliant idea Kathy! Also very practical for all Australians because we have been in drought mode for a couple of years now, and are on severe water restrictions. We have to save water wherever we can and this would certainly help a lot if everyone did it. One question though - making a good cup of tea requires water just off the boil! The thermos water would be fine for coffee, but how good a cuppa would you get from the thermos water when making tea? Guess I will have to experiment! Thanks for the tip.

I've never thought of doing that it would save money and water I'll have to try it. I only have small thermos flasks but if I invested in a bigger one I could do this.
