Do you think I should be talking my son to the doctor because this past week he had gotton such a bad headache that he was holding both sides of his head, crying and rocking from side to side because he said it hurt so bad. This is not the first time it has happend. Maybe a handfull of times. He is 11 and what concerns me,is how fast they come on. He will be fine and then bam it just hits him! Any thoughts?

This sounds exactly like migraines , if it is there is not much they can do for it until he gets another one but when he does , I would take him in and have him checked as they would be able to give him something to ease the pain for him . Migraines are very painful and I have suffered from them ever since I was a child . They only found out as an adult what they were and although there is no cure they were able to give me prevention medication so I don't have them as often . Best of luck !!

I also suffer from migraines. Of all the nice things to pass to your child! I just didn't know if children could get them so young. Thank you for responding.

I would take him to the Dr just to make sure, he will be able to advise you best. My 7 year old started with them last summer and eventually was refered to the hospital, they could be migraines or stress caused by school, he has special needs so it is hard to tell, he went for an MRI last week to make sure it is nothing bad, I'm not tellig you this to scare you, but it's worth checking it out just for your peace of mind, I'm sure Bong will be fine and have to wait another couple of weeks for his results. This has taken about a year now.

In the middle of the night I suddenly thought about you, lol. Could he have earache - may be worth checking for an eat infection, my youngest used to do this when his ears were bad sometimes.

Yes hun, I do believe that you need to take him to the doctor. My son (15) has been having "headaches" since he was 1, at about 18-20 months they just seem to be coming on more often. By the time he was 4 he was dignosed with having "Migrains". He has been on medication for these Migrains for 10 yrs. We were told that he may just "grow out of it" which we are assuming is what is happening cause he has stopped his medicine in Jan and has been good since. He will still have the occational "headache" but it is nothing that over the counter meds cant handle. So yes, you may want to bring them in and the doctors will ask many questions about the "type" of headache he is having. I wish you all the best.

They may want to do tests to make sure everything is all right inside his head. Have you taken his blood pressure during a headache? Sometimes an increase in blood pressure can cause a sudden headache. What is he doing right before he gets the headache? Is he getting upset right before or is he doing homework? Have his eyes been checked recently? There are just so many things that can cause a headache. I am glad that you are taking him to the Dr.

IT wouldnt hurt to take him in and talk to your doctor....He/she will most likely explain what it is and why its happening so the next time this happens you will have a better understanding I hope that your son gets well soon!
