I use Limewire to download music from the Internet but not very much. However I have been told by friends that I should avoid doing so as such programs are illegal to use and possibly unsafe. What do you think?

Hello there! I also use Limewire but I don't share my files. :D I turned off the sharing feature. Yep, selfish it may seem. But you would never know whose browsing your computers files when you turn the sharing feature on. I have experienced downloading an mpg file before using Limewire. And even with all the security softwares installed in my computer (with all the recent definition updates at that!), a malware/adware/browser-hijacker (I'm not sure how to classify that thing) managed to mess up my computer. Good thing I was able to fix that thing. :D

yes i download music from the internet. i used to use Limewire for that but when my computer got infected with some virus i had to uninstall it!! now i use quite an old software called soulseek(slsk) for all those music i love (especially of 80s). and i haven't face any problem with that yet:) i know some people call it an illegal thing but i don't see much point because if it's illegal then it would also be illegal when a friend sends me songs on msn/etc. is it so?

You cant trust using limewire especially when downloading programs, these programs may have a keylogger embedded in it,and when you install the program the kelogger will also be isntalled and people can monitor what your doing and can later steal your passwords. To music now,i like downloading music,i use bearshare to download single tracks. For downloading full albums i use bittorrent.BEst filesharing program to get your musics, movies and softwares.

Legally Limewire isn't illegal. If you share music/videos/or any other copyrighted material over it, then it becomes illegal. Limewire has a history of a lot of virus and spyware issues, but if you are smart and know the average file size of the thing you are downloading, it normally isn't an issue. Bit torrents are becoming a lot more popular over the past couple years. It is a lot easier to find some of the larger file sizes and download them faster with a torrent.

I download music, but then I buy it from iTunes. It is not rocket science to figure out that if someone makes a CD and you download it rather then buy it, it is not a legal copy. Most of the things on limewire come with a virus or spyware or something. You can pay for the song or pay with a virus. I think paying for the song is much smarter.

Thanks 'Debs'. I have not had any probs. with Limewire and I agree that its better to buy than poach.

I don't download music that much but when I do I'll go to the WalMart music website. The only problem though with them is that I've noticed WalMart censors language on certain songs. Not that I get a lot of foul-mouthed songs but I don't really like the idea of them dubbing out the words, I mean I'm paying for the original song so I should be able to get it. Okay, I'm done venting, lol. Maybe I need to look at other places to download music.

I used to download music from the internet before. I use limewire too. But it was so risky. I got lots of virus from this site.
