"I'm fine...."

How come no one ever says anything else but this traditional "I'm fine" whenever they are asked how they are? Is everyone that "fine" always? I believe not... could it have become some sort of a habit... or better said, a cliche for everyone? what do you think about it?

A friend of mine maintains that "fine" stands for F*cked-up Interior, Nice Exterior...
