Immunizations and Autism--What's the stitch?

I have to know why people continue to believe that there is a link between immunization and autism when it has been disproved to satisfaction in all scholarly circles. The original study that this was based on was 1)conducted by a doctor with little reliability, 2)paid for by a pharmaceutical company that was introducing a new vaccine, and 3)Disproven by several studies from far more reliable sources. So why do people continue to base the decision of whether or not to save their children from a major, potentially life threatening disease based on the word of an unreliable scientist? All of your responses are welcome--I really want to understand!

Autism is on the increase. Every parent ought to be looking for the answer to this increase. The link between autism and innoculations has not been proven or disproved so far and studies are still being performed on the subject. It stands to reason that when you try to put vaccines for more than 20 different diseases in the arm of one tiny child, that something bad might happen. Check out the Associated Content article on this subject. http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/79016/autism_and_vaccines_parents_should.html

This is one of the problems with research, and please do not take offence to this, but many people were never taught how to reasearch. The site that you linked me to is not peer reviewed, not acredited, and not accepted as accurate in the intellectual community. Conversely, here are some sites that are all of the things I just listed: http://www.nichd.gov/publications/pubs/autism/QA/sub4.cfm http://www.iom.edu/CMS/3793/4705/20155.aspx For refrence, if you are researching a subject, look for the .edu or .gov extention, or make sure that the site is acredited (like the AAP)

I really would put more faith in the comments of a mother whose child had autism than in these so called scientific studies. And, some doctors are beginning to avoid the practice of giving so many vaccines. Common sense tells us that you should avoid loading tiny children with more and more vaccines.

Why would you put more faith in the mother of a child with autism? Does giving birth to a child with a birth defect automatically make you an expert on said defect? How is it possible that a mother would know more than all of science combined? And these so called medical studies are the same ones who have created the antibiotics you give your child when they are sick, and the basic treatments they use every day. These scienctific studies have shown us the truth about second-hand smoke, pesticides, cancer, and a whole host of other things that have improved our lives. SOme of those very studies were done by the AAP. (American Academy of Pediatrics--of which your pediatrician is likely a member) Why would you believe that an uneducated person would be beter equiped to deal with this?

OK, yes, autism is on the rise. It's easier diagnosed now. However, it also overlaps with other disorders and I think that a lot of diagnoses are misdiagnoses, and there are a lot of disorders that are considered "autism spectrum" without actually being autism. And you are born with autism, there is NO WAY AT ALL to get autism. It's NOT contagious. It's NOT given to you by a vaccine or a toilet seat. To say autism can be gotten from vaccines is about the same as saying you can get HIV/AIDS by shaking the hand of someone who has it. And keep in mind that because you have a child that has autism does NOT make you an expert on autism, it makes you and expert on YOUR child. I have a child with an autism spectrum disorder. And with diagnosing my son, I discovered that there are at least FOUR VERY DIFFERENT disorders that OVERLAP in symptoms. Diagnosises must be done carefully and completely and by many DIFFERENT people with differnt specialities. And I'll repeat just one more time, YOU CAN NOT GET AUTISM, YOU ARE BORN WITH IT OR YOU ARE NOT!
