investing in art

What factors should be considered while investing in art? How do i make sure the artist is well know and the painting is worth the price? Do they give any kind of certificate or so?

Certificate is true for high quality of painting. But no.1, you must have a mentor and learn about painting from him.

I personally would never think about "investing" in art. If I have the money, I will buy something that appeals my artistic sense and nothing by its monetary value.
