i have 1gig (two 512mb chips) and a 3ghz intel pentium D plus an nvidia geforce7600/256mb video card. iam planning on boosting my RAM to 2 gigabytes.will it make the pc run smoothly??? i have 250gb (total) of harddisk space but 70gb are used up.could this be why my pc has been slow lately coz of the proportion of ram to rom?????

This depends on some other factors, too. Specs wise, you have an optimal config already, but if you wish to increase it, it would be better, 2GB ram, since you are using a compatible P3ntium D cpu, it should work nicely, granted you have extra RAM slots in the mobo. If no, you should use a pair of 1GB memory for the upgrade. If you have a healthy system, you're pc should be working fast, probably some malwares, and/or improper device drivers might be interferring with the system. check the drivers, if they are the right ones and not generics. ALso run AVs antispywares and update OS via Windows Update. This should help
